William Leonard Burt, 94, passed away June 3, 2021, at Oak Manor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Largo, FL. He was born July 6, 1926, in Chicago to William Edward and Josephine Elma Burt. Len was a retired teacher & coach, serious bridge player, and a treasured father, grandfather, uncle, & friend.
Len was in the Army in World War II, served in post-war Japan & competed in inter-command track and field. He also served as an Korean War induction medic. Len was a 1944 graduate of Parker High School, attended Wilson Junior College, and received his bachelor's & master's degrees from the University of Illinois. Len coached & taught at Crystal Lake, Gilman, Shelbyville, Arlington and Hersey High Schools and Harper Junior College. He also taught drivers education and, in retirement, senior's bridge & defensive driving courses.
He was predeceased by his widow, Myra Thomas Burt, his ex-wife, Mae A. Burt, his parents, sister LaVerne Robertson and his brothers, Eugene and Kenneth Burt. His survivors include his children, Donna Bowen, William (Cheryl) Burt and Marti (Ron) Frailey, his grandchildren, Cindy Bowen, Cheryl (Ken) Locklin, Scott Bowen, Danielle Wolf, Heather Burt, Derek (Laura) Burt, Audrey (Justin) McDole, Rachel (Kyle) Schulz, Susannah (Josh) King, six great grandchildren, his brother Harvey Burt, treasured nieces and nephews, bridge partners & friends.
Visitation will be 10 am - noon on Thursday, July 15, with a memorial service at noon at Our Lady of the Wayside, 432 W. Park St., Arlington Heights, Illinois.
