Chester Skubiszewski, age 89, of Villa Park, IL, passed away peacefully October 24, 2021. Born in 1932, he grew up in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, was an active member of St. John of God Parish and graduated from St. Rita High School.

Beloved husband of the late Helen (nee Tabak). Deeply loved father of Paul (Lynn), the late Janice, Rose (Phil), Carol (Joe), Joan (Allen), Barb, Ed (Barb), Laura (Elliott), and Chris (Don). Proud grandpa of sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Fond brother of Dorothy and the late Dolores. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Devoted and dear friend of many. He served with honor in the Korean War (Army 27th Infantry, Wolfhounds) and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. After his military service, he worked as a Postman in Chicago, later becoming a distinguished Postal Inspection Officer, retiring in 1989. After his retirement, he was an active member and volunteer at Our Lady of the Snows Parish serving in many roles including Usher, Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He dutifully provided donuts and pastries to his fellow volunteers sustaining them while performing God's work. In 2004, he was honored with the Christifideles Award from the Archdiocese of Chicago in recognition of his participation in parish life. Chester was a life-long Cubs fan. He was thrilled to watch them win the World Series in 2016. He loved a good joke, loved a bad joke even more. He enjoyed a nice glass of whiskey, Polish food and taking long car rides across the country. In later life he expressed his greatest wish was for "true peace in the world, so all my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren may enjoy a peaceful and prosperous life in this beautiful world that God created." He is greatly loved and missed by his family and friends.
