Everybody at Bill's wake had the same thing to say about him. That
he was the nicest guy, the best friend who would be there for you at the drop of a hat, and a wonderful father.
He sure did love you boys, Neil and
Darren, and never failed to tell you that. I have seen you grow over the past 22 years and hope I can be a part of your lives in the future, also. Make your dad proud.
Stay close to your church and THE WORD OF GOD for guidance and comfort, and know you have many friends out there you can call on any time. We love you both very much.

I was saddened to hear about the loss of Bill. I, having lost my own father about four years back, looked up to Bill as a father figure as well as a good friend. Even though the only opportunities I had to talk with Bill were in the church we both attended, I felt very close to him. He was a man who appreciated that Jesus Christ had paid for all his sins and his future home was Heaven; Bill was never hesitant to show it or talk about it.
The thing I admired the most about Bill was the love he had for his children. I recall a day - in 2002, I believe - Bill was talking with me in church about driving to Hinsdale to pick up his boys. I jokingly remarked, "Like traveling a long way to find buried treasure?" Bill replied, "Yep, I've got two treasures down there." The affection Bill had for his sons never failed to impress me.
After the loss of their father, I am reaching out to Neil and Darren to help guide them through this time. The way will be difficult for them, but it is a path I have already traveled in the years following my father's death. As did their father, they know Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and are able to come away from this tragedy with strength and hope.
