William Hunckler Obituary

Hunckler, William J. passed away on April 13, 2008, in Naples, FL. Former Barrington Hills resident, was born February 27, 1928, in Louisville, KY, to William and Clara Peter Hunckler. Bill attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, the University of Notre Dame, and the U.S. Air Force and FBI School. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Bloemer, on August 7, 1948, and was planning their 60th wedding anniversary this summer. Following Bill's four year tour as an OSI agent in Fairbanks, Alaska for the Air Force, he resumed his career with Household Finance Corporation in Chicago. He retired as Executive Vice President responsible for establishing HFC'S international operations in the late 70's and early 80's. Bill was a vibrant, dynamic out going church, family, business, school and community leader throughout his life. Wherever and whenever he met a stranger, he made a new friend in minutes. His counsel was sought and valued by everyone who knew him. Since surviving a quadruple coronary bypass 20 years ago. Bill devoted himself to golf, grandkids, church, friends and exercise. He rode his bike seven miles patrolling his Naples neighborhood the morning of his final surgery. Bill is survived by his brother, Eugene (Rita) of Louisville, his beloved wife of 60 years, Shirley, three children, Williams J. Hunckler III (Diane) of Chicago, Gail (Brian) Johnson of Union and Julie (David) Frederick of Woodstock. His passion the past 20 years has been his six grandchildren, Katherine Patricia and William J. Hunckler IV, Sarah Johnson and Andrew, Roseanne and Thomas Frederick. The Funeral Mass and Burial for William Joseph Hunckler, was held in Louisville, Kentucky. However, for his many Illinois friends (and six grandchildren who are preparing for final exams from Massachusetts to California), a second Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 14th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Rd., in Huntley. A reception will follow the Mass. Memorials in Bill's name may be made to the St. Mary's Building Fund, 10307 Dundee Rd., Huntley, IL, 60142, or the Cloistered Passionist Sisters, 1151 Donaldson Hwy., Erlanger, KY, 41018.

Shirly & Gene,
Although Bill and I didn't see each
other a lot throughout our lives, I
considered Bill a good friend. We roomed together at XU. I remember the trip to school with his mother, Clara and she lead the rosary with us in passing through the snow. She was a saintly lady and I am sure she will welcome Bill
in their plase in Heaven with Jesus.
I remember a lot about his love for Shirly, as he thought of her constantly. I am so sorry to learn of his death........Tom Rusch

I met Bill and wife at Lexington Catholic High. He had great work ethic and was an example to all who worked with him. I also knew his mother Clare from my days at Ursuline College in early 60's. A great family

Our deepest sympathy to Bill's family. We remember him as "Chicago Bill" as he was known to us at St. Ann Church in Naples FL. His deep resonant voice will be with us always. Bill did not know us but we knew him.
