William Compton Obituary

WILLIAM J. COMPTON
1933 - 2007


William J. Compton (Bill, Dad, Grampa), 74 years old, died September 10, 2007 after four weeks in ICU with sudden respiratory distress syndrome while on a trip to Yellowstone with his brother.
Bill was a native son of Kentucky who spent most of his life in California. Born in the small town of Prestonsburg to Minta Nunnery Compton and Ernest Compton, he was the oldest of three sons. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, and brother, Don, and will be loved and missed by friends and family; his wife of 53 years, Anna (Ann) McComas Compton, their son, Craig and wife Mercedes, grandson Joshua of McKinleyville, Calif brother, Bob Burke and wife Janie of Shelbyville, Tenn; mother, Minta Burke (91) of Lexington, Ky. and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Bill was retired from Martin Marietta Corp. after 31 years and was a member of the MMC Retirement Club, Elk s, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
A memorial service to celebrate his life which he lived to the fullest will be held Friday, September 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Santa Maria, 311 South Broadway.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church. Burial will be private.

Ann and family,

We are devastated to learn of the death of our dear nephew and cousin Bill (fondly known to us as "Bill Jim") and already miss his phone calls to check on his Aunt Piney. Please know that you remain in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless you at this difficult time and always.
