Whitfield Leckie Obituary

Statesville - Mr. Whitfield Alexander Leckie, 93, of 1194 Old Mocksville Rd. died Thursday evening at his home.

Born in Iredell County on January 9, 1912, he was a son of the late Fipps Leckie and Mary Lou Tomlinson Leckie. He was retired from Hunt Manufacturing Company and was a lifelong member of Providence United Methodist Church where he helped build the current church building and donated land for the parsonage. He was fondly known as the "Neighborhood Mechanic" in his community. On February 23, 1934, he married the former Susan Faust who died on June 18, 2005.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Sylvia L. Payne of Newton, N.C. and Miss Betty Gail Leckie of Statesville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Karriker officiating. The body will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Reid Tomlin, Jim Payne, Bill Leckie, Bobby and Johnny Faust and Jimmy Gaither.

The family will assemble at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 Saturday evening at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Iredell 2347 Simonton Rd. Statesville, N.C. 28625 or to Providence United Methodist Church 1273 Old Mocksville Rd. Statesville, N.C. 28625.
