Veazey, Weldon Noyes
Weldon Noyes Veazey passed away on November 6, 2022. Weldon was born on June 22, 1927, to Mertie G.F. and Dolly Veazey in Memphis, Tennessee. He married his beloved wife Eddie Lee Veazey on May 30, 1946, prior to reporting for service in the U.S. Army, at one point stationed on the South Pacific Island of Kwajalein, part of the Marshall Islands. Immediately after his Honorable Discharge, Weldon and Eddie Lee were reunited making Chicago, Illinois their new home where they raised their five children.
Weldon worked several different jobs, often two at a time, before landing a job with Peoples Gas Light & Coke Company, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1983. He was absolutely the hardest working, most conscientious serviceman in the company! He always gave 110% often stating his effort matched his name…" Well-Done". He displayed the same work effort and attention to detail in all he did. Weldon was a "giver", always willing to assist those in need, a character trait instilled in him by his parents. He always rooted for "the underdog", no matter the situation. All that knew him were always entertained by his kind, warm personality, and beautiful singing voice. In his presence, you knew you would laugh a lot and have a good time.
Papa filled his retirement years enjoying time with his beloved wife, immediate family, and his extended family both in Chicago and other parts of the country. He spent considerable time in Coldwater, Mississippi on land once owned by his grandparents, enjoying the company of relatives there, and forging new friendships.
Weldon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eddie Lee, his parents, his sister Geraldine, and his brothers Erwin, Melvin and Carlton. He is survived by his sister Audrey, children Sharon, Darryl (Lisa), Frederick (Julia), Jacquelyn (Frank) and Alison (James); 15 grandchildren Enid (Eric), Hayat, Tariq, Paris (Brandy), Jule (Melissa), Madeah, Vance (Nicole), Shannon (Lenita), Troy (Ashley), Jeremy (Sitaara), Aja (Kendel), Melanie, Bree, Nolan and Ari; 22 great grandchildren, Amber, Yasmin, Xavier, Justin, Mariah, Camri, Jordan, Savannah, Jada, Madison, Paris Jr., Shaddai, Ariana, Laila, Ava, Jori, Ariadne, Clarke, Arya, Jaya, Jett and Rya; 1 great-great grandchild, Atlas, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
