Korean War Veteran, beloved husband of Nancy (nee Wise), cherished father of Lynn (Richard) Purdy, Karen (Kenneth) Dertz, Kenneth Cummings and Scott (Kathy) Cummings, fond grandfather of Nicholas, Erica, Anna, Martin, Lindsay, Phillip, Jacqueline and Dana, dear brother of Paul (the late Dorothy) Cummings, Leota (Joseph) Kremposky, Carol Burge and the late Jean and Charles Birgin, uncle of many nieces and nephews. Past commander and lifetime member of Johnson Phelps VFW Post #5220, and current Ritual Team member. Member Oak Lawn American Legion Post #0757 Lifetime member of Operating Engineers, Local #150. Funeral Monday, from Zimmerman & Sandeman Funeral Home, 5200 w. 95th St., to Our Lady of the Ridge Church, Mass time pending. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. May God be with you and your family through your sorrow. While I never had the good fortune to meet Mr. Cummings, I know his daughter, Lynn, is a very special person and a wonderful nurse. Lynn often spoke of her loving family while working at LaRabida. May God comfort you through the loss of a special father.

I remember how I used to sit at the dining room table with Nancy and write a letter to Wally at that far away place called Korea. I was just a little kid and he was my big sister's boyfriend. I loved him too, and he soon became my big brother-in-law. We'll all miss you very much-especially that infectious laugh.
