Viola Ostrander Obituary

Viola May Ostrander RHINEBECK- Viola May Ostrander, 101 of died Monday Nov. 22, 2010 at the Thompson House in Rhinebeck. Born Nov. 2, 1909 in the Village of Fishkill, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Liddie (Warden) Davis. Viola resided in Hyde Park most of her life. Prior to her residency at Thompson House, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law on Ashokan Road in Marbletown. In her younger years, Viola was the primary care giver to both her parents and her in-laws. She was employed for 30 years in the garment industry as a seamstress for Sweet Orr and Gottliebs. She was a wonderful mother, dear friend to many, both young and old and a grandmother to all. She was a poll worker in Hyde Park, volunteered with the Heart Fund and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Poughkeepsie. She celebrated her 101st birthday on the 2nd of Nov. with her family and friends at the Thompson House. Survivors include her daughter, Lydia "Lynn" H. Schatzel and her husband Henry of Kingston; one sister, Gladys Antedemineco of Hopewell Junction; loving grandmother of Brian Schatzel of the Town of Kingston and Matthew Schatzel of Clifton Park; beloved great- grandmother of Cooper Schatzel. Many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, lifelong friend Josephine Rodes and dear friend Jackie Jennings also survive. Her three sisters, Marion Blatter, Grace Uhle, Dorothy Bruzgul and three brothers, Harvey, Harold and Kenneth Davis all died previously. The funeral procession will form 9 a.m. Saturday at the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh.com). Burial Office will be offered at Saint James Episcopal Church in Hyde Park at 10 a.m. Interment in Union Cemetery, Hyde Park.
