Somehow since your passing I managed to forget that your gone. To me your just away having fun in France, Vietnam or Australia. And sometimes my denial fades just little and I feel that unbearable pain our cousin Quan is talking about. I rather hold on to you being alive than grip the reality of you being gone....

Happy belated bday!

July 2, 2014

Our old friend is back and we couldn't help talking about you! It was nice to bring up old and funny stories. He will be by to visit you. Look out for your family below, I'm sure they bleed everyday for you. Hope you're resting easy.

This weekend, I embarked in a day full of music and yesteryear memories. A candle was lit in your memory and of course I had to bust out some of your favorite tunes. I thought about calling your mom, but I'm sure she'd rather be alone and think of you in peace. When I think of all the things you've done and all your accomplishments, I am left with a smile and I hope you had the time of your life here.

Mate, it has been 1 year since you were taken from us and I still get this ache in my chest at the thought of you; I guess that's what they mean when they say your heart is breaking. Although we're 1st cousins we didn't meet until a few years ago but I feel like we've known each other all our lives. We talked and confided in each other freely and it didn't take me long to realise what a remarkable person you are; too humble to acknowledge your own talent and too shy and proud to ask for help. You endeared yourself to many here in Australia. I was excited, proud and hopeful whenever you told me of your goals and dreams and looked forward to you embarking on your next phase of your life here in Australia. But I hoped for too much and did too little and now there is only 'what ifs' and 'if only'. I saw this poem which I think encapsulates how all your loved ones would be feeling since your passing:
If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again.
Missing you always Viet, from your cousin Quan.

My old friend. I always knew I'd talk to you again, just not like this. Your departure was rather abrupt and no one was prepared for it. It's been so long since we've spoken. So much has changed yet still remained the same. I wish you nothing but peace with everything. It was the last thing I wished for you when I last saw you, the same thing I wished for you when they buried you. Rest in peace my friend. You've taught me so much in my life. I will never forget your kindness and the memories we've shared. I am who I am today, largely, because of our past. As you look onto us from heaven, may you find comfort in knowing that you will be remembered as a sweet, kind, smart and loving person. There's so much to say but I'll keep them to myself and resume this conversation when I see you on the other side.

Ps Marley cracked me up. She is witty and charming...and reminds me of you.

Viet its been almost 3 months since you left the family and there's not a day that goes by where I don't think about all the memories we had together.. I am proud to be you're nephew and to have you as my uncle. Nothing is the same without you anymore. Without you around I feel like I don't know who I am anymore. You played such a big role in my life and ill never get to thank you for everything you've done and taught me.. I cry every night because I know ill wake up without you here, but at least I know you're resting now. You didn't deserve for this to happen to you. Everyone loves and misses you uncle. You'll always be second to none.
