Mr. Arif (Veli) was such a charming man, i´m brought to this memorial page many years after his passing while searching for information on that wonderful little Oak Lawn institution he created, Veli´s Kofy Kip. As a long time resident, and frequent patron of the restaurant when I delivered papers for the nearby Oak Lawn News Agency, I cannot adequately describe the joy that he and other Arif family members brought us with their iconic, charming version of the American breakfast diner. I wish we could go back! You all truly made a lasting impression on so many. Thank you Veli and May God bless you and your family!

just thinking about all the breakfasts and lunches I had there in the mid/late-70's when I lived and worked in Oak Lawn, man do I miss Veli's Kofy Kup. Used to always ask Ali "how many eggs have you cooked today?" and his immediate response was always the same... "too many". Great times, great food, great prices and always a smile from Veli and Ali

Thinking about how much I miss Veli and Ali and the Kofy Kup all these years later. Nothing in the area compares to it, not even close.

Extremely sorry that I missed Veli's wake and funeral. Veli meant much to me just as he did to so many people. He bought Dimpys from my cousin and turned it into a great place for all. He will be missed. Condolences to his family. May his memory be eternal.

I wish to express my sincere sympathies to Mr. Arif's family. I will always remember his kindness and his visits to his doctor's office where I got to know him well. He was so sweet and always smiling, and always had kind things to say, he never complained. I had the pleasure of having breakfast at his home away from home and it was the best breakfast I had, the food was great, the service was even better. He was always thinking of his customers as family and friends and everyone knew "Veli". I will miss him and I am grateful for the memories I have of him. I hope in time your pain will ease and the memories you have will bring more of a smile then tears and make you feel happy because he is looking down at us and expecting us to continue enjoying life and being kind to one another as he did.

What wonderful memories you brought to me and my friends. For years, every Sunday, three or four of us would drive from 4300 south in Chicago and get together for "Breakfast at Veli's" and we were always warmly greeted by Veli. It felt like going to a friend's house for breakfast.

We'll miss you, Veli.

To Veli's Family, Our family is so sorry to hear of your loss. We've never had as good a breakfast as the ones served at the Coffee Cup. Where ever we travel and it's time for breakfast we search in vain for a Veli's. We never find one because The Coffe Cup was unique. When you went there you saw families, couples or maybe someone all alone. But you never felt alone because of the family feeling all around the room. We have a cup and saucer from Vels that we brought home the day the diner closed. (We asked Famia if we could have a souvenir) It's in our diningroom china cabinet. Everytime we look at it we think of the happy times we spent eating at Veli's. Now we will add a prayer. Please accept our deepest sympathy , Joe, Jan, Amanda and Joe Burke

To Veli's family,

We were so fortunate to know Veli for many, many years and our favorite weekend mornings always began with a visit to see him. He was so kind to my parents and my siblings for many years and always had a "to go" breakfast for me when our father couldn't make it in to see him anymore. My son always got the best advice from him... to mind his mother and be the best person he could be. Only when he fully agreed could he get the lollipop! We loved the restaurant but most of all we loved Veli. His personality was larger than life and he will forever be remembered by us as a very important part of our growing up in Oak Lawn. God Bless Veli, he was truly a kind and wonderful person and we will miss his wonderful spirit.

Veli,

Ever since I can remember, my parents would bring me to the Kofy Kup. I remember always being excited to see you. You were like a grandfather to me. You were such a great person and I'm glad to see that Ali has taken after you. May no one forget or ignore the loving way you treated everyone you came in contact with and the incredible outlook on life you had.

Rest In Peace,

Tim Hickey

We were so sorry to hear of your loss. Veli introduced me and my husband to many of his friends and relatives and helped us when we got into business. Although we had not seen him for several years, we will always think fondly of him.

I am so sorry to hear of this tremendous loss for your family. Veli will be sorely missed. His presence at Veli's made Veli's what it was, a down home family place to go and meet your neighbors and friends. He always had a hug, a smile and a good word for me when I saw him. I think I can speak for most in our little town that the day Veli's closed was a very sad day for all. It was the ambiance of the place more than the delicious food that kept everyone coming back. Such a family atmosphere that we will never recapture again. Veli will be forever missed and loved.
