Troy Ford Obituary

Ford, Troy Julius The first curtain on the stage of life ascended by Troy Julius Ford in Chicago, Illinois on May 20th, 1963. The final curtain of the stage of life for Troy descended on February 2nd, 2007. The youngster, Troy, was energetic, inquisitive and personable. His intellect was apparent at a very young age. He attended Pirie, the Harries School; completing grade school at Avalon Park. He graduated from Hyde Park High School. While in high school he learned to play the violin (Suzuki Style) and enjoyed skiing with Junior Sno Gophers at major ski slopes in the USA. Troy attended Illinois State College, Chicago State College and earned a degree in Public Relations from Columbia College. Troy worked in public relations with Marcia Dyson P.R., Saddler-Davis P.R. and BR&R Advertising companies, and free-lanced with a few others. He was an active and loyal member of the LGBT and BG&L communities. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. Troy has traveled throughout the USA, Paris, Italy, Monaco, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Amsterdam. He thought of Amsterdam as his second home. In addition to travel, he embraced the arts of gourmet cooking, gardening and floral design. Troy loved to entertain and interact with people. He checked on his neighbors and was often the first to welcome new neighbors. He truly loved and enjoyed life in the Windy City. He enjoyed the diversity of it's cultural activities, social life, politics and most of all it's people! Those who will cherish his memories forever are, his mother, Haridell, aunts Margaret of Chicago, Clevelynn Mentillo of Sacramento, CA, first cousins Joseph and Todd Mentillo of San Jose , CA, Douglas Family of Pittsburgh, Avery Family of Minneapolis, and many friends and associates. The family of Troy J. Ford extend a heartfelt gratitude for all of your generous expressions of kindness and comfort during our bereavement. A Memorial/Celebration of Life Service will be held on March 11th at 3:00pm at the Newberry Library 60 West Walton, Chicago, IL.

I miss my son, he was the only child of mine. His knowledge and experiences were truly amazing. In his 43 years on earth he experienced more that most do in their lifetime, his travels alone were epic.
I thank Yahwah for allowing me the experiences of 43 years with Troy. Yes, I wish we had had more time together, but I'm grateful for what we had.
Shalom my son, RIP!

Ms. Ford, I send my condolences to you and your family. I attended Hyde Park with Troy. He and I skiied together while in high school with both the Hyde Park Ski Club and the Jr Snogophers. I can remember us staying over Aunt Margaret's house once or twice preparing for a ski trip. Troy was always a very nice person. Always looking out for you. Although I haven't seen Troy for a number of years, the friendship we shared as teens, I've always remembered.

Haridell,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am very sorry for your loss and your hurt. I wish there is something I can do to take your pain away, but unfortunately, only time can numb some of the pain. At the very least, be comforted by the fact that he is in a much better place and is with God. He is looking over you always.
Love, Francis Le

He was my only son and my closest friend. We did not always see eye to eye, but I loved him as Christ loves Me and all mankind, unconditionally.
