Tom DuBois Obituary

DuBois, Tom July 24, 1949 January 17, 2019. Tom DuBois, age 69, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019, following a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born in Chicago and raised in Marshall, Missouri, Tom graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1971 where he was an active leader in the anti-Vietnam War movement. Tom moved to Chicago where he expanded his activism and met the other half of his heart, Theresa, at a 'Rising Up Angry' community volleyball game. Tom and Terry eventually moved to Northwest Indiana and raised their children, Sam and Caitlin. Through the years Tom continued to work in Chicago with a focus on job training and workforce development, most notably at Instituto del Progresso Latino and Calumet Area Industrial Commission. Tom will be remembered by many as a kind, steady fighter and teacher for justice. He dedicated himself striving towards peace and a world where everyone gets a fair shake. Tom believed in good jobs, doing right and the power in connection. Tom believed in all of us. He is survived by his wife, Theresa; mother, Eleanor; siblings, David and Elizabeth; and children, Sam and Caitlin. He was preceded by his father, H.L. DuBois. Memorial Service will be held on February 2, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Hobart, 497 Main St., Hobart, Indiana. Food and stories to be shared following the service. The family is accepting donations to be divided between medical bills and various union strike funds.
