Thomas Schmidt Obituary
Schmidt, Thomas H. born August 6, 1938, died peacefully in his home on March 5, 2009. Born to Herbert and Catherine (Doran) Schmidt, Tom, the seventh of nine children, grew up in Chicago and married Sally Hamman on May 4, 1963. He served as a Chicago police officer for 31 years and was a member of the Emerald Society, the German-American Police Association and the Illinois Police Association, for which he served a two-year term as President (1995-1997). After retirement, Tom and Sally moved to Lake Thunderbird in Putnam, IL. He was also a proud member of the Southwest Moose Lodge and the Princeton Moose Lodge. Tom is survived by his wife, sons John (Michelle), Tom (Danielle), Bill (Shauna), Jim (Christy), Joe (Angie) and daughter Suzie (Chuck) Barth, along with 16 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Mass to be held Saturday March 14, 2009 at 10 a.m. St. Stephen Church, 17500 South 84th Avenue, Tinley Park, IL, with Rev. William Sullivan, o.s.a., presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Cremation Society of Illinois handling arrangements 800-622 8358.
