Dear Janet,
The Winchester family also just found out about Tom's passing. I have been on the Bone Marrow Donor Registry for over 20 years now and was very disappointed that I was not a match for Tom. I remember fondly the family gatherings in our Grandparents basement when we were just kids. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Janet,
I just learned of Tom's recent passing. I saw it in the Loyola Academy alumni newsletter which arrived today. I am very sorry to hear that he is gone, and you will be in my prayers.
I went to grade school with you and Tom at St. Jerome, class of 1959. I haven't seen either of you since graduation but I remember both of you as a couple of nice kids who obviously went on to have a great family together.
Best wishes to you and the entire Royce family.

Dear Royce Family,
I knew Tom when we were both juvenile probation officers in Cook County and going to law school at night. We even played a little football in the park. He was a solid guy with a generous heart and great sense of humor. Our paths crossed only infrequently after law school but I always considered him a friend. Deepest sympathies

Sorry for your loss. My father, Blair Varnes, wrote one of Tom's reference letters to assist in his admission to law school. When Tom graduated, he personally delivered an invitation to my Dad to attend the graduation ceremony. My father never forgot that. Just another example of how thoughtful Tom was throughout his life.

Dear Royce clan: Having started out in the Public Defender's Office with Tom, and having heard the "I want a real lawyer" countless times from clients who thought they knew better, Tom was the "realest" lawyer one could ever hope for. He was a true believer, a fighter for truth and justice, a vigourous advocate, a trusted and revered colleague, a respected and beloved friend. Always wearing that famous broad grin we all knew and loved, we daily lived not only the courthouse "war stories," but also his "love stories" of his cherished family which he always brought to the office thru photos and words. Tom brightened us all, and though we may no longer see that famous smile when we walk thru the courthouse doors, it will forever be there warming and embracing us all.

Mrs. Royce, Jennifer, Melissa, and family,
I am so sad to hear about Mr. Royce.
Many of my favorite childhood memories are of times spent with your family and Mr. Royce was at the center of those. He was always so much fun and I can still hear him laughing with my dad until late in the night on our camping trips.
I hope your wonderful memories bring you some comfort. My prayers are with all of you.

Dear family Royce, please accept the thoughts and prayers from me and mine. Tom was my first guide in the flesh and blood of criminal law. While he was still in law school and I was in college we worked together getting I-bonds for pretrial defendants in the old House Of Correction. He taught me much about the humanity of defendants and their families. He was always a hero of mine, then and now. Heroes don't win every battle but they always show up for the fight. Tom always did and we loved and admired him for it.

Mrs. Royce, T.J. & Family:
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Royce. He was a giant in our community whom I always looked up to and admired. He is one of the first attorneys I ever met as a child and many experiences over the years no doubt shaped my own interest in the law.
It was a coming of age moment when I ran into him as a fellow attorney at the Daley Center and when I introduced myself, he remembered me immediately and had nothing but kind words and encouragement.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this most difficult time.

Dear Janet and Children:
I have so many fond memories of time spent with Tom. Almost too many to mention. I will always remember the Saturday mornings we spent bicycling along the Lake, the birthday celebrations and the racketball games. He was so busy with life, yet he always found the time to coach football and to advise so many youngsters. He was a role model to so many and he will be missed by all who knew him. Especially by me.

Dear Family of Tom Royce, No one had a bigger heart or a larger presence in the courtroom than Attorney Thomas J Royce. Tom's sincere work and brilliant talent as a criminal defense trial attorney were never second to none. God has already reviewed the life's work that Tom provided for the lest of us and has already allowed his admission into that highest court of the Universe. Love to each you and call on me if I can ever help in anyway, Bill Hooks

Royce Family,
I am sorry to hear of your dad's passing.
Tom was the epitome of a great human being. He was one of a very select group of men who truley shaped me as a young man. I looked up to him from my early childhood days, played for him as a young football player and later coached with him as a young man. I cherished the one on one conversations we had throughout my life time. He always had time for me.
His kindness, thoughfulness and integrity will remain with me forever.
Dina and I will keep him in our prayers.
