Thomas Leahy Obituary

Leahy, Thomas M. As Director of the Chicago Archdiocesan Committee for Latin Americans, Tom Leahy helped Hispanic families meet the challenges of adjusting to a Chicago of the early 1970s. As Father Tom, he ministered to parishioners of Old St Patrick's Church in what was then Chicago's "skid row." Following his departure from the priesthood, Tom's career spanned 35 years as a DCFS assistant director of child abuse investigation, a hospital director of organizational development, and a corporate senior outplacement consultant. In whatever role he played, he found a variety of ways to help organizations and individuals achieve their potential. Tom graduated from Quigley Preparatory and University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary and furthered his education in a Master's Program in Philosophy at Loyola University. Survivors: His wife of 26 years Linda (nee Goldberg), Brothers Robert Leahy (Kathy) and James Leahy (Marianne) and six nephews and two nieces. Tom treasured his Irish heritage. He was the son of Robert and Bridget (O'Shea) Leahy. He enjoyed "discussing" politics, travel, his dogs, and reading newspapers from all over the globe. In lieu of flowers, memorials to PAWS Chicago, 1110 W. 35th Street, Chicago, IL 60609 would be appreciated. Visitation Wednesday 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge. Lying in State Thursday 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass 10:00 a.m. at Old St. Patrick Church, 700 W. Adams, Chicago. Interment private. Dear Linda:
I worked and traveled with Tom for many years at Lee Hecht. Knowing Tom was to know his beautiful soul - we shared a number of topics, from Catholic schools in Chicago to Dingle in County Kerry.
You and Tom;s family will be in my prayers - and I won't be praying for Tom, I'll be praying to him!
God Bless!

How beautifully fitting that Tom entered eternal life in the midst of the Sacred Triduum of the death and resurrection of Jesus. As a classmate at Mundelein with Tom, I walk with his family in this loss.

Sincere condolences to the family. Tom was a frequent companion during our Quigley years. Our contacts in recent years were limited to reunions of that class, but my memories of earlier times are strong and kind. I wish you comfort and healing, and my prayers will continue for you and for Tom.
