On behalf of my late father, Judge Harry Comerford, I want to express my family's gratitude for the friendship and advice that the Honorable Thomas Hynes offered him. Mr. Hynes was a truly classy and modest person. A paragon of grace and common decency who was respected by thousands of people who had the honor to know him.

It was truly an honor to know such an elegant, bright and compassionate man as Tom Hynes. Tom and my Uncle Joe, Justice Joseph Gordon, shared a friendship that spanned over four decades, until my uncle's sudden death in 2012. They met when my uncle was a young associate at a major law firm and Mr. Hynes was a third year law student at the top of his class, working at the Cook County Law Library. Tom assisted my Uncle Joe in his legal research out of which a friendship developed. Along with impacting upon the lives and careers of so many people, Tom was instrumental in launching my own career in public service (first in law and later in religious leadership) - - for which I am personally grateful. Although we will miss the Honorable Thomas Hynes, I know that he has a special place in the World to Come along with his dear friend Justice Joseph Gordon.

Tom Hynes was a fine and decent gentleman, an astute practitioner of politics, a very good ally to have, and a great Irishman. I will always be grateful for the valuable and sage advice Tom gave me and so many others he helped, simply because he believed in supporting people on merit.
May he rest in peace.

I always felt Tom was bigger than life. He had a wonderful deep and soothing timber to his voice, and always had a great "Hi Pat" to go along with his firm handshake. When I entered law school in '86 I joined the commercial property assessment team at the assessor's office - Tom's office. When he learned that I was using the public restroom and that it required that I transfer from my wheelchair to the floor, etc. due to my spinal cord injury (this was pre-ADA passage of course) Tom felt terrible. He had a restroom in his office and wouldn't hear of me struggling that way. My brother and I worked (like many) on Tom's first campaign for office in the IL Senate, handing out yard signs and stickers/buttons along Western Ave. I grew up in suburbs and was enthralled with the Purple Cow and these crazy city kids dancing in a soda shop on a Saturday afternoon! As I recall the senate was in session when my 8th grade trip headed to Springfield where I was the star of the class because I saw Tom on the floor. Many great memories associated with knowing Tom as I know thousands of others have. Godspeed Tom!

Dear Judy and Family,
Im holding you all in my prayers and with deepest sympathy. It was such and honor to know Tom and have always been touched by his kind spirit, keen interest, dignity, and warm, genuine concern.
Im so very disappointed that I cant be with you to celebrate his good life, but I am in Texas all week on a Mission trip for Catholic Extension. I will remember him and all of you at Mass in Laredo on Thursday while you gather in St. John Fisher.

I remember being invited over to your home on Fairfield to learn about admissions for GIRLS into St. Ignatius. The Hynes Family graciously opened their home to all the girls in Leah's class as we would be the first female class to attend St. Ignatius. Quite thoughtful and ground-breaking, especially for the time/era! I also remember walking through the parking lot at Notre Dame on game day. We happened across Mr. Hynes' tailgate, and he VERY GRACIOUSLY took in some hungry and thirsty college kids and shared his incredible food and drink with us. Over thirty three years later and I still remember it like it was yesterday. My most sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved husband and father. I will always have fond memories of your family.

Very Sorry to read that Assessor Hynes has passed away.
As County Budget Director during that period, I recall how
President Dunne had the highest respect for Assessor Hynes
and in the administration of his Office.
Under Assessor Hynes leadership, his Office was professional,
ethical and exercised excellent fiscal administration.
May God welcome this Good and Nice Man.

Tom was a true friend. In times of need, great and small, Tom helped my late Mother, Lynne, and my late Father, Nick on numerous occasions. I too owe Tom a great deal. Allowing me to learn and advance professionally at the Assessor's office. I met my wife there and we've always been grateful to Tom for that too! On behalf of our little family, we send our sincere condolences to Judy, Leah, Tom, Dan and Matt.
