Dear Pat and Family:
My first impression of Tom was that he was a quiet, distant guy who worked all the time. Over the last 20 years that I have been in the family, I realized he was a special person. He was quiet but very caring and funny. Pat, I remember one conversation with Tom when you were looking for a dress for the wedding. He was talking about how you were dragging him all over two states, all the gas he was wasting, etc., but he said it with such love in his voice that I still remember that phone conversation. He loved his family dearly. I hope the good memories will sustain you through this difficult time.

Mrs. Flynn, I knew Tom from our old days at the Shakespere Station. I was in the Burglary Division while Tom was in Robbery. I always considered Tom a good friend of mine and I'm very sorry to hear of his death. He was a great guy and one of the best detectives I knew. My condolences to you and your family.

Auntie Pat, Tom, Mark and Lisa –
Lexie and I feel very blessed to have had Uncle Tom in our lives. He was a very special man. We’ll never forget the time we spent in Florida with him and Auntie Pat, especially when we went back to my dad’s. I knew how nervous dad was about seeing Uncle Tom for the first time since the divorce, but Uncle Tom showed what kind of a man he was by shaking dad’s hand with a smile and sharing stories and drinks on the balcony. It meant a lot to me and to my dad. And I also will always have fond memories of summers in Delevan on Uncle Tom’s boat when I was younger, and learning (unsuccessfully) to water ski. You know I love all of you more than I can say, and never forget that I will always be here for you no matter what. Be strong, Uncle Tom would want that. And he’ll always be in your hearts to help you.

Tom will certainly be missed, he was the best Robbery Detective I had the privilege of working with. His memory was so outstanding you could only stand and be amazed by it. When I was a young Detective I looked up and wanted to be like Tom, but no one ever matched his innate ability. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Tom was the greatest detective that I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with. Many lives were made richer by Tom being a Chicago Police officer and many people were safer in their lives and in their homes by the work that Tom did. When I started out as a new detective, Tom was the one that I looked up to and learned from. Tom will be missed
