My deepest sympathy to the Fitzgerald family. I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Father Fitz when I returned to the area. We all have fond memories of his involvement in our lives both in grammar school as well as high school at Little FLower. The world has lost a fine example for the priesthood.

Dear Fitzgerald Family,
I send the heartfelt condolences of the Powers and Tormey Families. My family and I were long-time parishioners of Little Flower in the 40s, 50s, and 60s, and Fr. Fitz was my favorite of all the associate pastors who ministered there. I'll never forget his genuine, gentle smile! I remember there was always a long line on both sides of his confessional on Saturday afternoons.
Love and prayers,

In 1979, my father George McGrath, a fallen-away Catholic (away from the church for 50 years) was dying. My mother called St. Thomas and asked if a priest could come to the house to see my father. The priest who willingly came was Fr. Fitzgerald, who had never met anyone in our family before. He was loving, wise and had great humor and it made all the difference! My father was so happy and peaceful after this visit and we are so grateful for Fr. Fitzgerald! Bless him and his loved ones.

I attended Little Flower High School during which time I had the pleasure of meeting Father Fitz.. Father would lead us in prayer before class and end with a prayer to St. Jude patron Saint of Hopeless Cases and glance in our direction. I was able to meet Father Fitz several times after I graduated from Little Flower and he always took time for a conversation. He will be missed by many many people.

Fitz was a wonderful man and a great inspiration. I prepared for ordination at the Jesuit School of Theology in Chicago and worshipped at St. Thomas. Fitz was always welcoming and supportive, a priestly man who thought first of people and only later--if ever--about rules. God rest him

I was a deacon serving at St. Thomas when Fitz was pastor in the early 70's. He is a constant memory. The friends I made in that rectory are friends still today. He created community. God bless Tom Fitzgerald.

I have great memories of Father Fitz from his time at Little Flower in the 40's & early 50's. He took time out for all of the kids at Little Flower Grammer School and when we were in high school, he was always there when we had questions about our faith and growing up. I am sorry that our paths did not cross more often.

Father Fitzgerald, a favorite priest of my husband and I at Little Flower. His smiling face and laugh will always remain with us. We crossed paths again at Wylers Children Hosp. -U of C, when our daughter was a patient there. He brought us communion frequently. A true man of God.

What a wonderful person. He has been a life-long friend of our family, dating back to the days at Little Flower. His simple and down to earth approach to life was absolutely amazing. When we were married in 1983, he was our choice to say the Mass. He surely will be missed, but his legacy will continue on.

Father Fitz was my favorite priest at Little Flower parish in Chicago. I attended the grammar school from 1954 to 1961 and Father Fitzgerald is my original model of what a priest should be. He was great. I discovered yesterday from the obit that my friend from Hyde Park also had the pleasure of knowing Fr. Fitz at St. Thomas parish. What wonderful memories just the words "Father Fitz" evokes. So sorry for his family's loss, and ours.

My condolences to Father Fitzgerald's family. I remember him well. My parents, Bernard and Ceil Gibbons, were very active in St. Thomas the Apostle parish. My dad ran the St. Patrick's party for many years and opened the church every morning. After my mother died and my dad moved here with me, Father "Fitz" used to call him regularly. He was a great man who will be remembered with love.

I served mass for and was married by this truly great man. My fondest remembrance was His requesting the congregation to remember in our prayers "Minnie Minoso and the Chicago White Sox" as they were about to play the Yankees in a crucial Sunday double header.
