Tezell Henson Obituary

Henson, Tezell age 94 of Chicago, Illinois passed away Friday, December 11, 2010. He is survived by two daughters, Alice Jackson of Gary, Indiana and Beverly Brooks of Jackson, Mississippi. Three sisters, Dorothy Small (Frank) Annie Ruth (R.E) Campbell of Kilmichael and Eudora Small of Winona, Mississippi. One brother, Elvernice (Sonny) of Chicago. Also surviving are grandsons, John Perkins of Springfield, Illinois, Jamie O'Neil of St. Louis, and Timothy Henson of California. Granddaughters, Viveca Handly of St. Louis, Dawn Henson of California, Billie Jean, Cassandra and Alicia Jackson of Gary. Amber Brooks and Erin Degrafenreid of Jackson Mississippi and 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Tezell was among the first African-American Marines enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps in 1943 and trained at Montfort Point Marines during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was an active member of the Chicago Chapter of the Montford Point Marines and a retired United Postal worker, serving thirty-one years. Visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 8247 South Jeffrey Blvd. Chicago, Illinois, on Saturday, December 18 from 10:00a to 11:00a. Service will begin at 11:00a. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on Monday, December 20, 2010. Departing from Cage Memorial Chapel, 7651 Jeffrey at 9A.M.
