Your mother was an amazing woman and a survivor. I watched her testimony. My mother is a hungarian survivor and still alive in San Antonio. She does not think she know your mother but worked in the same factory with her, was liberated on April 1st with her, etc. My mother was with 3 ladies from the beginning to the end. ALl 3 are still alive, one in Israel, one in Montreal and my mother in Texas. I would love for my mother to make contact with some of the ladies in your mothers group of 9. My mothers phone number is 210-479-7511. Her name is Susanne Jalnos. My name is Carl Jalnos...I live in Buffalo Grove 224-558-3550. I hope her sons get this message and we can make contact.

My heart goes out to all Mrs. Melamed's family and friends in their time of grief. May your hearts be filled with love and your minds with cherished memories of her.
With all my respect, I am writing Sylvia's family to say something that I would like them to hear and remember for generations to come. I need to explain what lead up to this message.
Many days in my 45 yrs of life, I have tried to figure out what makes some people hurt others or myself.
I lose all hope in humanity and become fearful and full of extreme and sometimes paralyzing anxiety. Questioning myself, "How I can bare to move forward after many traumatic events thru out my life?" When, it is a fact that it's not a matter of if something bad WILL happen, but WHEN?
I suffer with severe with P.T.S.D. (Post traumatic stress disorder) and G.A.D. (General anxiety disorder). With symptoms from these mental health issues, it leaves me no energy to focus on the present and future.
I happened to see on social media, a posting in regards to the story of Sylvia's survival from WWII along with her recent notice of passing.
I remember learning in school about WWII and the Holocaust.
The suffering was tremendous.
I wanted to tell you about how reading about your Mother's, Grandmother's, Great-Grandmother's (Sylvia Melamed's), life; lead me to read about her and her life.
After reading it all, something happened.
Hearing about her life has given me new strength to deal with the present day.
She has shown me that there can be hope, happiness and blessings after such hardship that her and her husband suffered thru. Perseverance can conquer persecution. Love can conquer all.
By God's grace, He let me see a glimpse of Sylvia's life. It was encouraging to know that after all she went thru, both her and her husband.....Happiness is possible.
There are millions of people that could find strength to carry on, if you all keep her story alive.
I am truly thankful that she had the courage to share her personal journey.
Sylvia's life can still help thousands of other's. In more ways then you may think about.
Rest in peace Mrs. Melamed

Such wonderful memories of Aunt Sylvia for the entire family! Her passing leaves a void of love, compassion, understanding, humor, and incredible warmth. She leaves a legacy of incredible invaluable life experiences ranging from survivor to teacher of love, warmth & kindness. Aunt Sylvia possessed the ability to educate all of us about humanity's complex treatment of one another - from kindness and love, to contempt, hatred and cruelty. She survived with strength and brave determination! Thank you, Aunt Sylvia, for touching everyone with your grace and love. I miss you....thanks for the memories!
