Susan Miller Obituary
"Shoshanna Rose"
Susan Carole Payne Miller
Our lovely Rose has crossed over the threshold of this life and made her transition after a long struggle with cancer. She danced her last dance on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, and now rests in serene peace, having completed her mortal journey. She was born Susan Carole Payne on September 4, 1949.
Shoshanna Rose, aka Susan Carole Payne, was the oldest of the 12 children of Dean and Jaynann Payne of Provo, Utah. She was the wife of Stephen D. Miller, and they resided in Medford, OR, for the past five years. Her greatest legacy was being mother to Scott Adam Bitter (Kyre) of Portland, OR; Heidi Bitter Brady (Bill) of Provo, UT; and Shawn Howard Bitter (Aubrey) of Merced, CA; and Morgana Miller of CA. Her six beautiful grandchildren: Wendi, Alina, Adam, Sunhee, Meeja, and Rebekah will dearly miss their "Grandma Rose," as her favorite activity was planning special trips and entertaining them in her inimitable way. She is also survived by her mother, Jaynann; and her 11 siblings, who are John (Edie) Payne, Janice (David) Hymas, Evelyn (Robert) Naylor, Wilford (Jill) Payne, Edward (Karen) Payne, Benjamin (Heather) Payne, Nancy (Jeff) Herrera, Thomas (Louise) Payne, Julie (Ben) Paz, Rachelle (Jason) Baum, Rosalie (Jonathan) Lines. She was preceded in death by her father, Dean W. Payne, March 15, 2006.
She enjoyed gardening, hiking, traveling, and gourmet cooking; and, especially devoted her life to her passion for dancing. She traveled the world performing many varieties of ethnic dance with several notable international dance companies; and, enjoyed a long career of teaching ethnic, flamenco, dance orientale, and sacred dance.
Shoshanna had a multi-interest background. She worked in numerous fields of business, including the legal, medical, insurance, sales, marketing and public relations professions. She reached out to people through office management to volunteer organizations, advocacy groups, career counseling, teaching school and running her own dance school. She devoted 10 years to working in home health and hospice care. She graduated with honors from the University of Utah, with two degrees. Shoshanna was an ordained minister and a long-time peace activist. Her large family and circles of friends will dearly miss her.
Shoshanna's whole life was about teaching and planting seedsÑher most important values. Shoshanna loved building communities, promoting peace, compassion and love of beauty and nature. When people we love die, we gather in circle. We need to hold on to something where our bodies can touch and we can feel safe when we are close to the veil between life and death. We pass the kiss of peace and remember we belong to the same human family.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at 11 a.m., at the Oak Hills 9th Ward Hillside Chapel, 1900 North 1500 East, Provo. The viewing will be at the chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
