Sue Love Obituary

Love, Sue B.

Sue B. Love, 91, previously of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully in Hillsborough, North Carolina on June 28, 2021. Sue is survived by her daughter Nancy Love, son-in-law Robert Sills, and niece Susan Beard. She is predeceased by her husband George Love, parents, Sara Young, and Elmer L. Beard Sr., brother Elmer L. Beard Jr, and nieces Lynn Beard, and Jill Beard. Sue was born in Chicago on September 25, 1929 to Sara Gowens and Elmer L. Beard. She was part of a close community in Woodlawn and attended grammar and high schools in the neighborhood. She graduated from the Chicago Teachers College and was a beloved teacher to the many kindergarten and first grade students she had at Parker, Beethoven, and Bunche schools. On September 25, 1948 she married George Love and they were together for over 60 years until his death in 2014. Sue loved to entertain, and spent much of her time in the company of family and friends. You could not leave her home hungry, family anticipated her Thanksgiving dinners, and her "couples club" annual "cook-out". Sue was a devoted mother and a proxy mom to many of her daughter's friends. She traveled extensively with George or her best friend, Beverly Mallette, and their travel group. Every trip was an adventure. Not one to stay in the house, Sue volunteered at Christ Unity Temple, her church of many years. Bridge club, water aerobics, caring for her miniature schnauzers, and visiting Nancy and Robert were a large part of her retirement years. Sue was a thoughtful friend who could always be counted on, and wanted those around her to be happy. The family is grateful to the caregivers at A Plus Quality Health Care and Elmcroft of Hillsborough for their love and dedication to Sue. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Sue's memory to the Dementia Society of America.
