Val,
As an only child raised by her mom, I understand the bond you and Streisand shared. The one thing I am constantly reminded of is the last few months you two shared living together. Even as close as you were, living together for more than five days could have been less than ideal.:) However, it wasn't. I remember you saying how much you REALLY enjoyed the time and how everything had gone extremely well. Such precious moments can never be forgotten and the way everything was orchestrated one has to believe it was TRULY of God. While enduring an extremely difficult time, the way your “light” has continued to shine, has truly glorified God and brought many to Him. You are an incredible person and I’m so glad to know you. May God’s grace continue to abound in you.
Warmly,

Michele Ann Mitchell

Val my sister and my dear Friend:

It's been a year since Streisand was called from labor to reward and you my dear friend you have been a faithful strong soilder and because of your faithfulness and righteousness God has blessed your life with peace. His words tells us that the work of the righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. (Isaiah 32:17). Stay strong Val, and continue to trust God that He knows His business in the affairs of your life. I love you my sister.

Ms. V,
It's been a year since Strei left us. Everyday there's something that reminds me of the time we spent together. I was just thinking this morning about the time we spent in Atlanta when we came for the Kanye West & Usher concert. They say time and faith will make the pain subside. I truly hope so. I keep you, her grandmother & uncle in my prayers daily. I love you all. I'll keep in touch!

Val-

I just got the word of Streisand's passing. Having had the pleasure of seeing her as a child when you lived in New Jersey. Knowing the love the two of you shared as mother and daughter first hand, I am simply devistated by this news. I can only offer you comfort in knowing that "the gifts and calling of God are without repentance." Striesand's life on this earth was a gift that has touched many lives (including mine) because of how you raised her. My profound condolences to you and your family on her passing. "Thanks be to God who has given us the victory over the trials of this life and death through Christ Jesus!"

Valencia,
I was very saddened to hear about the loss of your daughter. I never had the pleasures of meeting her but was very uplifted by the things I have read and heard about her. The memories of her life and your time together, with the support of your friends and family, will get you through this very difficult time.

Ms. Sanders,

Always remember that God has a bigger plan for our beloved Strei. Its almost impossible to say all of the great things that Strei brought to all of our lives. Its times like this that we all must pray and keep our head up. I'm really estatic to have been apart of a great thing.

Val, We haven't seen each other since AIC days back in Springfield, Mass. Deb Carpenter emailed me to let me know the sad news. My heart goes out to you at this time. She is a beautiful angel with our Lord and Savior now. I know us parents feel our children should not go before us, but God needs her beautiful spirit with him. They are on loan to us on this earth but we all belong to him. May God keep you and your family during this time and always.

Hey Ms. Val,
Just reading the words left by others let me further know just what kind of impact Strei had on all of us. Everyday I see or hear something that reminds me of her. In my heart and mind Streisand was and will always be family. When I was attending Florida Memorial and she would complete her intern, we were always together. When she left and moved back home, I thought man she's lucky! She gets to go before I do! We remained in constant contact and always made plans to see each other. That was my little cousin...sometimes thick as theives. I'm so proud of Strei. She was the kind of person I wanted to be. Full of life, taking life by the horns and doing just what she wanted to do. She wasn't afraid to take risks and I absolutely LOVED that about her. I often asked myself why did this person come into my life. What is it about her that reminds me of something in so many ways? First my birthday is 3 days before hers so I knew we were just alike. I still wanted to know what she was supposed to teach me. I knew the answer a long time ago. She taught me to be the kind of person who wasn't afraid to accomplish goals no matter how far-fetched they seem. To try EVERYTHING one time because even if you don't like it, you never have to try it again.
To Ms. Val, Ms. Sally and Ms. Gwen, thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to know and love Streisand. Those experiences and memories will help you and all of us get through these days ahead.
Strei, I love you baby girl and you will always be my sister. I will carry you in my heart forever...

I am sorry Ms.Sanders to hear about the loss of Streisand. I don't even know what to say but I am glad that I have all the memories of Streisand who I called "goofy". All the days at high school and a lot after, wow how she will be missed. I just wished that we would of still been friends and I didn't have to hear of my friend like this. You and your family will definitely be in my prayers and I pray especially for you because I know how much you loved her. Lots of hugs and kisses, especially prayer.

Dear Valencia,
The name of your beautiful daughter caught my attention because I, too, am a Barbra Streisand fan. I remember when you were both on Oprah's show when Barbra was a guest. I truly admired your daughter's evident devotion to you. One could easily see the love between a mother and child just watching the two of you.
Although I don't know you personally, please accept my heartfelt sympathy for your tragic loss.
Sincerely,

To my dear sister,
I can find no words to express how sad I am. I am sad that I did not really get to know Streisand. As time past, our lives happened independent of one another. We unfortunately did not maintain close contact. I only meet miss Streisand once. Even as a baby she made quite an impression. I found out about Streisands passing by accident, while skimming the paper . I was already at work, unable to just leave and in a total state of panic. Knowing that God had shown me this for a reason I let go and let God.. I knew that I had to be at her HOMEGOING!
God made my attendance
possible and for that I am grateful.
I stood in Trinity as a witness to who STREISAND really was in life. You all did a fantastic job. Like you said Val 'IT TAKES A VILLAGE".
Val, Hold on tight. keep your friends and family around. rely on your village. Call me if you need me or even if you dont. I love you. deb

Sallie there is little I can say ,except that I love you.

To the rest of the family. My heart goes out to you.I WILL PRAY FOR YOU ALL.

Prof. Yanela Gordon

June 21, 2007

Hello Ms. Sanders. I was so shocked and saddened by the loss of Streisand. She was a student in my News Writing & Reporting class at Florida A&M University. I met you one day when you were visiting Streisand and you attend my class. As a professor, sometimes special students creep into your heart and not only become a former student, but a friend and member of your family. I counted Streisand as a friend and family member. It was always a pleasure when she would call and I'd hear this voice on the other end saying "Professor Gordon." We at FAMU are deeply saddened by the loss of this fallen Rattler. She was an awesome human being, with a lovely personality and voice that would make anyone smile. I pray that God continue to comfort you and that you find peace during this time. Take care from me and FAMU.

Valencia,
I met you through a mutual friend Gachelle Coffey. When Gachelle informed me of the lost of your daughter I immediately felt your pain. Although I've never lost a child and can't imagine the genre of feelings you're experiencing please know I have you and your family in my prayers. May your daughter's memories, smile and spirit forever be with you. The Father will provide you with strength you never knew you had.

Keana Ingram (Cross)

June 21, 2007

Val,

(Man…I remember when you brought Streisand over to see Kia and I; we were over Uncle Calvin's house. Streisand was just over a year old. She looked like a doll and the spitting image of you!)

Of course, there will be times when we'll all miss your little doll, Streisand, and some of us will try to understand why. It's during those times when we mustn't question God, but to draw nearer unto Him. Our time with Steisand was a blessing and simply God's work at best. So, lets all cherish the times we had with Streisand, and reflect back on those great memories we were ABLE to have with her, verses thoughts of making "tomorrow's" memories with her, because tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone.

Val, my deepest sympathy, prayers, and heart go out to you and the family. I’m sorry I don’t know how you feel to help you through this. But one thing I do know is, God knows what’s best. Most times, it doesn’t seem like it, but He really knows. It is through Him that makes the impossible, POSSIBLE! I have faith that God will ease your pain, and that you will lean on Him, during these difficult times; because of the woman of God I know you are (yes, something I picked up as little girl. ;-)).

Val, I love you and will be there for you!

XOXO

Val, the things mom told us about Streisand inspires us to try to live a life as full as she was living, especially the fun times you all enjoyed. Remember she will continue to live life to the fullest, but in a different place. Continue to walk with God and He shall direct your path through your grief.
