Dear Moran Family -

This morning I heard, to my great dismay, of Steve's untimely passing last March. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Steve was my landlord for several years. He was a good-hearted, hard-working, and generous person whose energy and practical wisdom I admired very much.

I will keep him in my prayers.

I knew Steve for a short time many years. He was good person. My thoughts and prayers go out to all.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die."

It was with great sadness that I heard of Steve's passing. I shared a room with Steve my freshman year at Drake University. Steve "got it" in terms of the human condition. He had a great heart, and a sense of humor. We had an R.A. in our dorm who fancied himself in the military in terms of his oppressive oversight. Steve stood up to him for all of us. I have not seen or heard from Steve since 1982. He had a good soul. RIP.

It was a special swimming season at New Trier West in 1980. It was the first time we beat New Trier East in a dual meet in many years. We eventually finished 3rd in the state, which was huge for a school with a smaller enrollment. Steve was a big factor that season, helping to make it a special year for those of us involved with New Trier West swimming. Steve's great personality, hard work in practice, and best ever job with the beggars film wont be forgotten.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Steve and all of his friends and family.

I'm so sorry for all our loss. Steve was a great friend with a most genuine and generous heart. He never forgot a birthday… I was lucky enough to spend a few weekends with him in Michigan and he could never do enough to make sure everyone was comfortable and happy. That’s just the kind of person he was. I will miss him forever – Pal-E-Roo.

Steve was one of my few friends during H.S. and I will always have great memories of him and that great smile. I loved friends about the time Steve broke his nose on a urinal while ducking from an incoming towel, probably from Johnston, ha. I have never seen a blacker eye then he had.

His memory will continue to live through all his fellow "Blue Wave" teammates.

My thoughts and prayers go out all friends and family.

Seth and I joined Steve in Chicago in November and we had an absolute blast. Seth and Steve were childhood friends and I was delighted to meet such a fine gentleman.

Steve called soon after that and invited us out to Colorado to ski over New Years. I loved the stories he told about high school, his travels, his family (especially his skiing nephew) and the Navy. He kept us captivated for hours.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his beloved friends and family.

God Bless, Carole Cotts

To all,

After being invited by Steve to the most recent New Trier West H.S. Swim Team Reunion (mostly engineered by Steve), it was a great opportunity to rekindle our friendship.

Subsequently, Steve invited my friend Carole and I to join him in Crested Butte, CO this past New Year's Eve to go skiing, where Steve was the utmost host and gentleman. The visit gave us an opportunity to share memories dating back to our early teens.

Steve will be greatly missed but the memories we shared will be with us always.

I will end this note as I always have every time we corresponded...

Pals forever,

Seth
