i have so many memories that date back to 1967 and the 3rd grade class in Rutledge hall where Steven was my first official friend in Lincolnwood. If i told you only memories up to high school it would require many pages because he was one of a kind and there was never a dull moment and you were always either laughing at his very sharp humor or he was pushing your buttons and always causing a reaction in his unique way! Steve was a very good all around athlete even though he didnt participate in the typical programs he was always involved at the least a weekend athlete. but one of his moments he always was so very proud of was in !975 in physical ed it was wrestling week and after matches came down to a few , his opponent was the legendary gymnast Bart Conner. Bart is an olympic gold medalist and at the time all merican state champ. they squared off for 3 rounds as Coach Porter was the official and this match was all about speed and Steve was a tenth quicker and in final seconds slipped away and reversed Bart to score the takedown and win by 2 pts at the last second. we all erupted in applause for both of them it was a great moment . Well my parents also loved Steve and he had the key to our house and would raid the refrigerator and find my mothers best treats and left overs at any time. he called my parents Mr & Mrs Cleaver as in "Leave it to Beaver " as my parents were the stereotypical middle class , do the right thing parents that they were. Only Steve with his fast laugh and very sarcastic ways coud pull that off and my parents just smiled as that nickname became very common among our people. Steve loved his wife and loved his kids and was living the Dream when a one second mistake ended everything. i miss him every day and i also was an employee of Empire so i was very fond of the entire Cohen family. its taken me @0 years to accept Steve is gone and maybe because my parents have died at ages 99 and 97 so its all come full circle. i can say that Steven J Cohen made my life better than it was and he made it better in many ways for everyone. he was generous caring kind and extremely funny. i was able to maintain a lead in our golf matches however i never wrestled him! Steve and the entire Cohen family should forever be one of Chicagolands best! love you and miss you my dear friend, Bobby Mittel
