As a father I have felt such sorrow for you. There simply are no words to comfort the tragic loss of a child.

November 5, 2011

Dear Mark and Sharon,

Please accept our deepest condolences and sympathy for the loss of your son. There can be no deeper grief for a parent than the loss of a child, and no greater strength than from knowing him and that he was, and is, loved, by all who knew him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I only knew Spencer thru Marks visits to Java Babas when I worked there. I could tell he was a bright, intelligent, gentle soul. Remember the love that was there, always. It will carry you thru.

There are no explanations for this terrible tragedy and why things happen the way they do. Sometimes life just sucks. Spencer touched all our lives. There will be a hole at camp. We celebrate his life, his talents, his unique charm and his zest for life. A person never truly leaves us as long as their memory lives on in our daily lives.... Spencer is eternal and will always be present in each of our hearts and lives and truly will live on forever in each of us that he touched. God Bless Sharon, Mark, Madi, Nancy and especially Spencer. You are all with us in our thoughs, heart, prayers and love. Love, Sue, Rick Nik and Emily Burns

Dearest Mark, Sharon, Madi and all of your families, a piece of our heart broke when we got the news. I watched Spencer grow up with the photographs you always made sure to send and the trips you made to New York every year. I remember his charm and his wit and how he loved visiting the big city. I felt his life force and will always remember how big his eyes were taking it all in...I can't begin to imagine the hole that must stretch out before you and as your longtime friend, I hope to somehow help you find a way forward. Ayala and I are holding you all in our hearts along with Spencer's memory. We love you and are sorry and heartbroken for your tragic loss.

I will always remember Spencer in the back of your truck in Keene reading the first of the Harry Potter books and then jumping out to run/gallop his turn around the track and immediately piling back into the truck to read some more. We share your sorrow and wish we were there in person to support you. Spencer was a good son with an amazing Dad.

In the short year that I knew Spencer, I found him to be an amazing person, just like Madi. I was one of the lucky ones who got to see Spencer almost every day; sometimes he'd stay for a while to talk. I'll never forget the day he played with his band at school; you could see this was what made him truly happy.

Remember to keep close to your heart all of the wonderful memories of Spencer, and that he will always be a part of each of you forever.

Though I didn't know Spencer personally, he hung out with friends of mine at the Tech Center. We would all just be hanging out and Spencer would just be telling jokes and smiling. I feel like I still see his smiling face passing by the classroom sometimes. May he rest in peace and Huntley family, you're in my thoughts.
