Sidney Moltz Obituary

Moltz, Sidney Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, age 98, of Chicago, Illinois, passed peacefully on April 6, 2016 after a brief illness. Sidney was the son of the late Alexander and Rose Moltz. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Elsie Moltz; and is survived by his sons, Richard (Kate), Sanford, and Jordan; and his grandchildren, Alexandra (Cedric) Merle and David (Kavita) Moltz; and his great-grandchildren, Joseph Merle, Krishna Moltz, and Coco Moltz. He was predeceased by his brother, Dan (Rose) Moltz; and sister, Dorothy (Max) Nedlin; and predeceased by his sisters/brothers-in-law, Florence (Robert) Whitefield, Lillian (William) Karol, Edith (Irving) Pichinson, Seymour (Rachel) Rubenstein. Remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and caregivers, Frances Herrera, Sylvia Rafaya and Lope Rodriguez. Sidney was a lovely and gracious man, admired by everyone for the charm of his personality. His older brother, Dan always said: "No one is a stranger when my brother Sidney walks into a room; he makes friends with everyone!" Sidney loved sports and watching his football (the Bears!) and baseball (the White Sox!) games was always his greatest pleasure. In World War II, he served as a Master Sergeant. His time stationed in Morocco was particularly memorable as he set about organizing all the local children into American-style baseball teams. Up until the end of his life, he absolutely believed if you said the words "Sergeant Sid" to any Moroccan, they would sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." Beyond family and sports, Sidney had many loves in his life including movies, musicals and music. He particularly loved music, everything from opera to popular song, and he loved to sing out the lyrics (all of which he remembered perfectly) of his favorites throughout the day and night. As a salesman Sidney was a valued employee of the Saul S. Siegal Fabric Co. for over 50 years. He was deeply loved and appreciated by many, and the people who knew him best will never forget the true warmth of his smile and brilliant sparkle of intelligence in his eyes. Chapel service, Tuesday 12:15 p.m. at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment Shalom Memorial Park.
