Sheryl Marshall Obituary

Sheryl A. (Roggensack) MARSHALL Age 50, Beloved Mother, Sister, Nurse and Angel of Light Sheryl A. Marshall, of Seattle, Wash. was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 as the result of a scuba accident. She was born August 5, 1956 in Rockford, Ill., the daughter of William and Lucille (Pavlak) Roggensack. Sheryl was a graduate of Harlem High School, Class of 1973. She went on to complete her nursing degree at Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1976. For the past 30 years Sheryl considered her nursing to be a ministry of love to her patients. She was a nurse at children's Hospital in Seattle, Wash. for the past 14 years. Sheryl was passionate about her work which she wrote about in the June 2004 "Nursing Matters." She had wanted to be a nurse since being a young child. When you talked with Sheryl, her love of being a nurse was evident. She was very engaged in making the Medical Unit and Children's a great place to work. She was active in shared governance, very involved in recruitment and retention, and developed the Building Blocks of the Wisdom series of classes for nurses. Sheryl filled the space around her with positive energy. She also enjoyed scuba diving, skiing, gardening, remodeling her home and cooking for her family. Survivors include: two loving sons, Christopher, 26 and Patrick, 23; her brother, Bill (Carole) Roggensack of Rockford, IL; sisters, Sandra (Ron) Knorr of Rockford, IL, Kathy (David) Massa also of Rockford, and Susan (David) Williams of Kansas City, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents. A Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2006; with a Funeral Service beginning at 3 p.m. at the Westgate Chapel, 22901 Edmonds Way, Edmonds, WA 98020. I had lost touch with Sheryl for quite a few years when I moved from the Pacific NW where we were great friends and coworkers at Children's Hospital. We shared many good laughs when she would come visit me in my log home on the Olympic Peninsula with her sons. I am heart broken to know such a beautiful soul left this life way too soon, Sheryl was truly a kindred spirit and bright light who touched me with her friendship.

We like to think of Sheryl as more than our Nurse while at Children's, but as an Angel that has touched our lives. We feel she watches out for our little Gabby in ways we can't explain. Without her support and enthusiasm we don't know where we would be. We miss her....

Dearest Sister Sheryl - In honor of the life you lived and the lives you touched, all of us sisters, Susan, Kathy, Sandra and our brother Bill will treasure all the memories of you in our hearts. I wish I could hug you more time, tell you I loved you one more time, eat at our favorite restaurant one more time, go to worship with you one more time. I was so saddened by your death a part of me died, but then when I think of your sweet spirit I know you would want me to be happy because you are with your Lord and Savior. All the promises we made regarding the boys will be kept in your honor dear sister. They cherish you and will live their lives to honor you. I see your lovely face smiling at me--I will reach out to others with the JOY you gave to all. Love Sister Sandra

Sheryl and I were roomates in nursing school & we both worked in Chicago at Michael Reese after graduation. It was her first job in Pediatrics. We discovered the city together. She was a free spirit!! She always said "butterflies are free to fly". She was always happy, smiling, and living life to the fullest. My deepest condolences to her family.

Sweet Sheryl....always smiling, always a bouncing bubble of positive energy. Your bright and cheerful smile will sorely be missed.

As one of my best friends, we never got to finish our TO - DO List of Adventures. I wish I could have skied Colorado with you and watched your reaction to real powder snow. There are beaches on Maui that are still waiting for us to stretch out on. There will be hot Caribbean nights when I will dance in a short skirt in your honor.

Mostly, I will miss your delightful laughter which touched my heart and always eased my soul. For you...Life was an escapade to embrace!

You will always be my Gypsy Angel!

Our darling Sheryl is gone from us for now - but her glowing spirit will stay in our hearts, and thoughts of her will always make us smile. We can only hope to continue our wonderful times together in a loving, peaceful place near to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We must use her example of a giving heart and great charity to better our own lives here on earth. God's blessings to her sons and family during this time of sadness and grief. All of you are in my prayers.
