SHELDON KARON Obituary

Karon, Sheldon One of the long-time pillars of the Chicago legal community, passed away at the age of 85 following a long illness. His wife of 64 years, Lee (nee Goldwasser); and three daughters survive him: Maureen (Scott) Byron, Laurie (Paul) Feig and Peggy (Howard) Pattis; along with grandchildren, Brett (Mandy) Byron, Samuel Byron, Michael Pattis and Katie Pattis. The son of Burt and Betty Karon, grew up in Duluth, Minnesota. He went on to become a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University as well as a 1955 graduate of Harvard Law School. He was most proud of being an Eagle Scout, though. He felt it represented all of the qualities one should possess to be a good citizen of the world. Mr. Karon began his career at the firm now known as Jenner & Block. He went on to head the corporate litigation group at Friedman & Koven before founding his own firm, Karon, Morrison & Savikas. Throughout his career, he has represented corporations worldwide in substantial patent, trade dress, and trade secret litigation. Along with his friend and partner, the former Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas, he served as chief counsel for Hughes Aircraft Company in the largest patent lawsuit ever prosecuted in the United States Court of Federal Claims. The firm then merged with Keck, Mahin & Cate where he served as the chairman of the firm prior to joining Foley & Lardner capping a 50 plus year career. He was also among the elite fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He was a founding member of Congregation Solel. If he wasn't practicing law you could find him playing his piano. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. Service Wednesday, April 29, 10:00 a.m. at Congregation Solel, 1301 Clavey Road, Highland Park, IL 60035. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
