Selma Arstein Obituary

Selma Stenehjem Arstein

Selma Arstein, 97, of Everett, Washington, died January 22, 2008. She was born into a large and loving family of nine children on May 10, 1910, in Williston, North Dakota. She began her teaching career in a one room school house in North Dakota and later taught at Roosevelt and Jackson Elementary Schools in Everett.
For over 50 years, she was an active member of Central Lutheran Church where she and Al formed many lifelong friendships. She was a wonderful hostess and could always find room for one more at the table. Sal enjoyed travel, camping trips, craftwork, making cookies (especially for her four grandsons), card games, and time with her family. Her special ministry was visiting the elderly, and she was a great example of Christian love.
She was preceded in death by Al, her husband of 62 years; and son, Richard.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Don Arstein and Tena, of Camarillo, CA; daughter, Lianne and Duane Pearson, of Mukilteo; four grandsons, Tad and Kathy Arstein, Shawn and Amy Arstein, Kent and Michelle Pearson, Kurt and Connie Pearson; and by 11 beloved great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, January 30, at Central Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be made to Central Lutheran Church.
Many thanks to her wonderful caregivers at Mach Family Home.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. My memories of Sally date back beginning with my preteen years. It was camping or family dinners. Sally gave me a wonderful bridal shower over 37 years ago. I saw her last year when Kathy and I went up to visit Lillian Nelson. I marveled at how wonderful she looked. Even though I knew she wouldn't remember me, she did look at me with a certain rememberence in her eyes. What a special wonderful lady!!

Mrs Arstein was my second grade teacher at Jackson elementary in Everett. My memories are simply of a kind and caring person that was bright and reached out to all of the children.
