Faribault - Sebastian Edwin Gillen (Seb), age 66, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and daughters on October 19, 2024, after his courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Faribault on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault.
Visitation will be at Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 3 to 8 p.m. and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Seb, son of Adrian and Jeanne Gillen, was born on May 22, 1958, at St. Lucas Hospital in Faribault, MN. He was raised on the family farm and attended Faribault High School, where he graduated in 1976. After high school he attended Vocational School in Faribault for Farm Management. VoTech parties are what brought Seb and Becky together. They were married on July 26, 1980, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Owatonna, MN. They accomplished 44 years of marriage together while raising their four daughters Kelly, Erin, Alicia and Casey.
Seb worked on the Gillen family farm, Jade Acres, before his 23-year employment at Brown Wilbert Burial Vault Company. In his retirement from Brown Wilbert, Seb worked for Jamie's Delivery Service and continued farming with family friends.
Seb was a proud husband, father, and grandfather and he let everyone know it. He enjoyed many activities throughout his lifetime such as socializing, playing softball, bowling, golfing and spending time with family and friends.
Seb was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, The American Legion, The Eagles and a former member of The Knights of Columbus and The Moose Lodge.
Seb is survived by his wife Becky, his four daughters Kelly Gillen (Allen) of San Diego, CA; Erin (Joe) Gillen-Bauer of Faribault, MN; Alicia (Jake) Topp of Whitefish, MT; and Casey Gillen (Tanner) of Kasson, MN. Three grandchildren, Avery and Sebastian Gillen-Bauer (Erin and Joe) and Denni Topp (Alicia and Jake). His siblings; brother Chris Gillen of Faribault, MN; sisters Lisa Barta of Faribault, MN; Karla Lutzi of Rochester, MN; Brenda (Terry) Probst of Medford, MN; and Sandy (Brian) Drache of Winona, MN, mother-in-law; Lelia Schwartz, brothers-in-law; Bob Schwartz and Rod (Chrissy) Schwartz along with many relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Adrian and Jeanne Gillen, brothers-in-law; Rick Schwartz, Steve Barta, and John Lutzi, father-in-law; Martin Schwartz, and extended family and friends.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Oncology team at Mayo Clinic - Rochester and St. Croix Hospice for all the care they provided for Seb.
