Rabbi Marcus was always kind and interested in in what you had to say. He was a wonderful listener. He was our Rabbi at Temple Emanuel in Gastonia. I was so sad when he left and even sadder today when I heard he had passed away. Several years ago while visiting another friend in Hendersonville, I was told that he and Ruth lived down the street from where they live. I had a nice visit with Rabbi and Ruth. I am so very sorry of their loss and Columbia's loss. May this wonderful man rest in peace. Shalom

Rabbi Marcus officiated my bar mitzvah on Nov 9, 2001, and was a dear family friend. I had known him since I was 3, when my family moved to America from Ukraine. He was beloved by everyone of every culture in the community. I remember his warm smile, him greeting us as we walked into the door for Shabbat at TOL, and him always listening to every word you said. He was always so happy to see me. Rabbi Marcus was synonymous with Tree of Life for me, and it will always be that way. May his memory be for a blessing.

`Tis a fearful thing to love what death can touch.
A fearful thing to love, to hope, to dream, to be - to be,
And oh, to lose.
A thing for fools, this,
And a holy thing, a holy thing to love.
For your life has lived in me,
your laugh once lifted me,
your word was gift to me.
To remember this brings painful joy.
`Tis a human thing, love, a holy thing, to love what death has touched."
