Young Jr., Samuel L. Age 95, Native Chicagoan and retired State Director (Illinois) of the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, U.S. Department of Labor. Appointed in 1975 as 1st Black to hold such position, having previously served as an apprenticeship and training area representative of the DOL-BAT for 8 years, a painting supervisor for the Chicago Housing Authority for 24 years, financial secretary of Painter's Local 1332 for 34 years and Delegate to the Painters District Council No. 14 for 27 years. Beloved husband of the late Shirley (nee Twine); loving father of Patricia, Carole, Emile and Anthony Sr. (Carla Renee); devoted grandfather of Lori (James), Alan, Samuel, Dana, Patrick, Matthew, Anthony Jr., Jason, Shana, and Kyle; proud great-grandfather of Alan Jr., Brandon, James Jr., Jaquan, Saige, SaDarryl, Jalani, Cameron, TreTayo, Matrina and Javion; dear brother of Martha and Shirley; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at A.A. Rayner & Sons Funeral Home 318 E. 71st Street. Home going services will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Miracle House of Prayer, 8638 S. Michigan Ave.
