Dear Sue, Laurie & Kristen,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I didn't hear of the news until about 2 weeks ago. My heart broke for all of you, as I prayed for your strength to get through this.
Laurie has been a great friend in my life for over 10 years. Her family has been a part of my life for just as long. Russ always made me look at things from a different perspective; his! But I had the utmost respect for him. His laugh still rings in my ear. His jokes still make me laugh. He is a great man. He always did everything he could for his family. And never questioned when lending a hand to friends. There are many things I could list to be thankful for in regards to what he has done over the course of the past 13 years for me. But simply knowing him is the most thankful thing of all.
You will forever be missed by all. And to Sue, Laurie and Kristen, I will always keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dearest Sue and Girls,
I just want to express my sympathies to you regarding the passing of Russ. I have know him for 38 years, I lived on 58th and Christiana across from Tonti School, and yes my dad was the person who would complain about the guys hanging around across the street in the school yard night after night.
We dated for about a week before he drove me nuts. Altho, he was very kind hearted and generous, I told him I wanted to be a nun and I didn't have time for dating. Girls I will give you some advise, be careful how you break up with a guy, you never know who will interview you for a job in the future. Since then, we've been friends, and had a lot of laughs together. He did get even with me, I got the job. I'll never forget what he said to me, this job is a piece of cake, yea right! Through the years I've seen him do so much for people, you just had to say the word and he'd be there, you'd ask for a little and you got so much more.
As a Dad he really loved and was proud of you girls and he loved your mom very much.
Dads are very special to us daughters. They are our first love.
This world is now a sadder place without him and his ways, he always would make people laugh. I will miss Russ very much, I loved him for the wonderful, giving person he was. I just hope he forgives me for sewing up his coat sleeves that time.
Know your Dad will be watching over you, make him proud, and if ever one day you feel a hit on the back of the head and don't know where it came from, I know who did it!
Can you picture this my Dad chasing Russ around yelling "You Tonti Kid get out of here"!
If you ever need anything, just let me know, I'll be there.
Be strong, Love, Judy

Dear; Sue,and Girls,
All of us at the Tinley Park District extend our deepest sympathies to the family of our friend "RUSS". We all may take comfort in knowing his assignment here has been completed, and he has moved on to a greater calling.
At the district,we will always have fond memories of his pleasant personality, gentle heart, 4th of July Polka Accordon, and a freshly food stained white uniform shirt.
You can't say the name Russ Smith without a smile on your face and a kind thought in your heart. We have been blessed with his present in our lives. Now Russ can,

Smith Family:
Such a shock to loose Russ so suddenly. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a wonderful unique man, his sarcastic tones were a cover for his big warm heart. I will truly miss working with him as I have for the past 11yrs. I pray for your family and know that Russ is now in God's hands.
Bless you all during this difficult time.

Sue and Family - We were absolutely shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Russ's death. I'm thankful we had the opportunity to see and talk with both of you a couple weeks ago.
Russ was a very special man, always lively; opinionated, yes,(but I loved that about him!) and most of all was a warm, generous and caring man. We were happy to have him as our neighbor, our friend, and also appreciate his many efforts on behalf of the PHHA.
He will be very much missed by us and everyone who knew him.
Our sympathies to you, Kristin and Lauren and knowing you have many wonderful memories to carry with you.
Sincerely, Amy Daniels and family

He was my friend for over 40 years. We lived on the same block. The best softball first-baseman I ever saw...he was funny, loyal, generous and a wonderful friend...I will miss him.
