Serritella, Ruby Ann (nee Amoroso), 65 passed away April 30, 2009 surrounded by many family and friends after receiving all the rights of her church. Beloved wife and best friend of James A. Serritella, loving and cherished mother of Anthony Ventu, devoted daughter of Mildred and the late Ventu Amoroso and daughter-in-law of the late Anthony and the late Angeline Serritella, fond sister of Dr. Pantaleo (Mary) Amoroso and Angelo (Charlene) Amoroso and sister-in-law of Camille (Dennis) Vena, dear aunt of Vincent (Gwen), Patrick, Matthew, Richard, Vince, and Joseph Amoroso and Mary Ann and Anthony Vena. She is also survived by countless cousins, godchildren and friends, as well as her dog Magic, whom she loved. Ruby was a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Cardiothoracic Surgery and received her B.S. in Nursing from Loyola University. She then received an M.S. in Nursing from the Catholic University of America. Ruby lectured at the University of Illinois Graduate School of Nursing and was elected Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing which recognized her contribution to the development of nursing procedures for open heart surgery. For over 20 years she worked at the Hines Veterans Administration Hospital and served on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Nursing Association. She advocated excellence in nursing education and clinical tracking to enhance nursing diagnosis and bedside service. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago and served on its Board of Advisers. She was also a founding chair of the Catholic Charities Gala of the Arts that supports Catholic Charities Emergency Services and was honored by Catholic Charities for her work. Ruby has left this life, but her life has not left us. Visitation Sunday, May 3, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels
