Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Bedford Church of Christ, 2401 Bedford Road, with Brother Gerald Ball officiating. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Ruby Mae Coppeak McFarlin was born March 28, 1920, to Dovie and W.A. Coppeak. She grew up in Fort Worth on the east side. She went to school at Polytechnic High. She met her husband, A.C. McFarlin Jr., at Polytechnic. She worked in the school office so she could buy his class ring. They courted and then they got married Aug. 22, 1937, in Marietta, Okla. Ruby was a wonderful mother and was very active with her two children in school including being a roommother and active in the PTA, Girl Scouts and Blue Birds. There were many times she would stay up all night making something for her children to wear to school and then go to work all day. She worked for Wehring Grocery and variety Buddies as a cashier and then to work for them in the office. She worked at Leonard's Department Store at Northeast Mall in the lamp and rug department. In 1973, Ruby and her daughter, Rebecca, went back to school to receive their GED diplomas.
She told her family that she was sickly when she was young and that everyone thought she would not live long. She had open heart surgery and went on to celebrate her 60th wedding anniversary.
She loved to sew, making most of her own clothing, including the clothing for the entire family. She loved the art of painting and loved to paint china. She painted her family a set of China and more. She would never sell her china, but if you liked it, she would give it to you.
She loved to travel to Galveston or Corpus Christi for vacation and take the grandkids, whom she loved dearly.
We love you, blessed Mother and friend forever in our hearts. Now maybe you can help paint rainbows and clouds for Jesus and his angels to enjoy.
The family would like to extend gratitude to Universal Hospice for a wonderful and caring place for our loved one and to our family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.A. Coppeak Sr. and Dovie Coppeak; siblings, W.A. Coppeak Jr., Mary Wiseman and Betty Jones; husband, A.C. McFarlin Jr.; grandson, Charles D. Clinton; daughter-in-law, Judi McFarlin; and great-granddaughter, Rachel El-Obari.
Survivors: Daughter, Rebecca Clinton Alegria; son, David McFarlin; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Although I never met Ruby, I thought that the family would like to know that for the past 10 years, I have has one of her beautiful paintings hanging in my house. I bought it at an estate sale in South Orange, NJ when I was furnishing my first apartment, around 2009, It has moved with me and I find it particularly calming. It now hangs over my computer in my home office. It is stunning in its simplicity and always makes me think of the coast. The waves are so lovely, I can almost hear them.
I am very sorry for your family's loss.

Not good-bye only see you later to my beloved Nanny. You and Papaw gave me a childhood and showed me somebody loved me and cared about me. I am so happy that you are dancing with the angels today and for eternity. See you when I get my wings. Laura
