I did not have a chance to meet Roy in person since our offices are in different states. I spoke to him many times in resolving issues. He always had a great attitude. It will be my GREAT loss for never being able to meet him. My prayers are with you!!

I only met Roy a few weeks back while I was in Chicago. I had heard many good things about him and was looking forward to working with him. He left us much too soon and will be missed by many. Godspeed Roy.

I knew Roy through Ray. We shared a love of the outdoors and he was always willing to make a new friend. I know his final moments being with Robert in the great outdoors was the way he might have wanted it. Regardless, it was way too soon for him to leave us. I send the family this poem that I so loved when I lost my loved one:

Perhaps God is a poet

Who writes with words of

Flesh and bone and leaf and flower.

Every hour of every day

Words pour out of the poet’s heart

And every word is beautiful and

True and worth the telling.

And when each poem is perfect

And there is no more which ought to be said,

The poet gently takes the words

Back into His heart,

Where they are safe forever.

And then He begins again

I did not know Ray Straatman but he joined Don Merritt's group at I&AM (JPMorgan Chase) earlier this year. Everyone had wonderful things to say about Ray and he was very respected here at Newport.

My sympathies go out to all of Ray's family, his loved ones, friends and co-workers. His unexpected death must come as a shock to everyone.

I want to share an anonymous poem that was given to me when my husband died suddenly. It has helped me to cope on numerous occasions.

Requiem

I give you this one thought to keep,

I am with you still; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunshine on ripened grain

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

of winged birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not think of me as gone

I am with you still in each new dawn.

With deepest sympathy,

My deepest symathies to Roy's family and friends. Roy touched a lot of lives not only at CNA and on the police force but also within his community. His passing comes far too soon. I take comfort in the fact that in the end he was with family and was able to do what he enjoyed most. Glad he is at rest in his true home.

Roy was not just a co-worker, Roy was a friend. Roy's priority was his son. Anytime he talked about his son, Roy's face would light up. Roy was known and loved by many. I will always remember Roy. And even though he left us too soon, I know in my heart that he was where he wanted to be and with his son who he loved very much. Good bye Roy, watch over us.
