Dear Elsa and the entire Dames family Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and Muskie fisherman extraordinaire. I had the good fortune to interact with him under Drs Stein and Donoghue when I served as the forensic dental consultant to the CCMEO. During routine cases and several major incidents both within Cook Countys jurisdiction and outside when the office assisted smaller jurisdictions in the state Roy was always ready to handle any bureaucratic red tape to allow the forensic scientists to get their job done, and if need be push a broom too. He was an avid fisherman witnessed by several trophy Muskies that hung in his office, always good for a story or two. He will be missed.

Please accept our most sincere sympathy on the loss of Roy. Elsa, you both were great together and never missed enjoying a good time. We will remember many things about Roy, both from work and at gatherings. One thing that will always stand out is that he was the best party host of all and always the life of the party. He made everyone feel welcome. May he rest in peace.

Dear Dames Family,

Roy and I worked together in the Cook County Medical Examiners Office for 23 years. Roy was an exceptional manager with an excellent understanding of Cook County government. What particularly distinguished him was his knowledge of medico-legal death investigation acquired by attending the annual meetings of the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME). Roy served on the Board of Directors of NAME as the administrator representative and personally knew most of the leading medical examiners in the United States.

When the office assisted other jurisdictions in disasters, Roy would work those in charge in whatever way he could help them most, e.g. answering telephones or going to the store to get Ziploc bags for personal effects.

When it came time for Roy to retire, an idea he happily embraced, the transition was smooth because he had personally trained his successors. I missed him then, and I am going to miss him even more now
