Rosemary Cox Obituary

Cox, Rosemary Therese (Pfister)

Rosemary Therese (Pfister) Cox, 86, of Oak Brook, Illinois, and Naples, Florida, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on the early morning of May 27, 2022. The daughter of Lester Pfister and Helen (Vogel), Rosemary grew up the seventh of eight children in El Paso, Illinois. She attended Our Lady of the Academy in Peoria, Illinois. She graduated from Saint Mary's of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana, majoring in Music. She was a Life Member of the Abbot Marmion Society and earned an honorary degree alongside our dad from St. Joseph's College. She met the love of her life, Edward A Cox Jr, at the Rojo Restaurant in Bloomington, Illinois. After college, she followed her older brother Danny to the Chicago area to teach music in Midlothian, Illinois. She eventually settled in the Oak Brook area to raise 10 children. She and her husband were proud members at both Butterfield Country Club in Oak Brook, Illinois for over 60 years and most recently, the Port Royal Club in Naples, Florida where she enjoyed lunches and dinners with her family and friends. She attended mass every day at Ascension of Our Lord Parish in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois and St. Ann's Church in Naples, Florida. She dedicated her life to three things - her husband, her family, and her faith, modeling for her children every day a simple life of unselfish commitment to serving others. She is survived by her family - her ten children, Edward A. Cox III, Mary Helen (Cox) Coffey, John Lester Cox, Maureen Therese (Cox) Scanlon, Thomas Michael Cox, Margaret Mary Cox, Robert Joseph Cox, Rosemary Pfister (Cox) Conway, Catherine Mary (Cox) Murphy, and Michael James Cox; her nine sons and daughters-in-law, Cindy (Fisher) Cox, Lawrence Coffey III, MaryJo (Hogan) Cox, John Scanlon, Lisa (Stockdill) Cox, Mary Kay (Schmidt) Cox, Christopher Conway, Neil Murphy, and Anna (Lambrou) Cox; her 42 grandchildren, Eddie, Delaney, Ryan (and wife Carly), Nikki, Christian, Colleen (and husband Timothy Purvis), Lawrence IV "Mac", Matthew, Alison (and husband Ryan Kierney), Jimmy, Courtney (and husband Ryan Gisriel), Johnny, Kiley, Maggie, Clare (and husband Matthew Lewitke), Jack, Mike, Joe, Madeleine, Tommy, Katie, Kelly (and husband Frank Battaglia), Daniel, Emma, Keira, Lauren, Robert, Abby, Katherine, David, Riley, Caitlin, Erin, Michael, Jimmy, Colleen, Kelly, Nora, Poppy, Mary and Donald; her four great grandchildren, Charlie, Frankie, Evie and Brecken. Three more great-grandchildren are expected to join the Cox family in the coming months. The Cox family would like to thank Dr. Steven Gallo of MD2 Chicago for his unyielding attention and dedication to our mother. His calming presence, invaluable medical advice, and thoughtful conversations were a welcome relief for mom and our family during her illness. We would like to thank her caregivers Anna, Maggie, Liliana, and Jola. Their constant attention to our mother during all stages of her illness was invaluable. We will never forget your selflessness or the kindness you showed our mom. We would like to thank John Verdera (JV) for his amazing loyalty to and friendship with our mom for the last several years. He was a reliable comfort for our family in Florida and Illinois, always knowing that if our mom needed anything, he would be there.
