Rose Comerci Obituary

Rose Marie Comerci, 85, died April 11, 2010, in Anchorage. She will be buried in New Jersey, alongside her husband. A celebration of her life will be this summer in Anchorage.

Rose was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Fort Lee, N.J. She spent 70 years living in northern New Jersey. Her working years were spent helping the war effort as "Rosie the Riveter" and later as an executive secretary. She then became a homemaker, enjoyed her children's activities, and friends; and returned to work as a university cafeteria cashier.

After her husband's death, she relocated to Vermont to enjoy her grandchildren; then moved to Anchorage in 1999 to be near her daughter. She enjoyed Alaska summers while wintering in Green Valley, Az.

Rose will always be remembered as an active, fun-loving, outgoing woman. She made friends easily and "never met a stranger." She leaves many friends behind in many states. She loved traveling and new adventures; "she was always game for anything." In her younger years, she enjoyed gardening, riding her bicycle and dancing at the VFW. She loved all types of music. She volunteered at the Anchorage Museum, Anchorage Symphony and Green Valley Animal League. Later in life, she became an avid reader, won at cards and games, and did crossword puzzles in a flash. Engaged in current events, she loved discussing any topic. She enjoyed a good joke and will always be remembered for her laugh. All who knew her will miss her.

She was preceded in death in 1992 by her devoted husband of 40 years, Nicholas James Comerci; and seven brothers: Carlo Sr., Anthony, Tobia, Joseph, Alfred, Peter and Carlo Ciottoni.

Rose is survived by her beloved daughter, Linda Rose Comerci and husband, Douglas Johnson, of Anchorage; loving son, Nicholas Comerci and wife, Beth, of Peacham, Vt., and their children, Nicholas, Adam and Griffin; many adoring nieces and nephews; and close friends in Alaska who were also like family.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association. Animal lovers can instead donate to the Animal League of Green Valley (www.talgv.org).

To the family of Rose - I first met Rose when I was working with volunteers at the Anchorage Museum Shop. Rose was a delight and we traded many stories during the time she was with us. I remember her laughter and humility most of all. I know you must have cherished memories that will help you through these sad times. She was a blessing in my life for the short time I knew her.
