I taught for Dr Burnett for several years before moving to Dallas, Texas to be married. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was simply the best Principal I ever worked with. My thoughts and prayers are with you, I'm so sorry I only heard of his passing recently as I would have paid my respects at his funeral.

My maiden name at the time was LeVine. Dr Burnett supported me in every classroom decision I made. He was profoundly professional and at the same time in total agreement with my methods and was always ready to back my decisions.

When I interviewed in Dallas, Texas with the Superintendent of schools he had just gotten off the phone with Dr Burnett. He said to me "I just got off the phone with your Principal in Chicago. He practically said you walked on water, we would be honored to have you in our district."

In 1973 when I began teaching there they were just BEGINNING to integrate their school system. They told me I had to teach in an "all black high school" as evidentially you can handle it! Obviously I was white and obviously I didn't care as I had for many years taught in Chicago, where the color of my students wasn't relaxant to what I was teaching.

I can tell you there was never another Principal equal to Dr Burnett. Never. We moved back to Chicago and I retired and started a family. I will always treasure my experience with Dr.Burnett. He was simply a lovely man and a consummate professional.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
