Roger Marquardt Obituary

Marquardt, Roger Cole 75, Formerly of Lombard. Roger was a devoted husband to his wife, Judy "Hardy"; a loving father to Scott "SR" (Barbara), Angela, Jerry (Christine) and Heidi "Cubby"; an adoring and passionate Opa to Dale Savannah, Cassidy, Alec, Andrew, Julia, Lauren and Oscar, and a loyal friend to countless others. Roger was born to Jerome and Helen Marquardt on October 23, 1936 in the Village of Lombard, Illinois where Roger, a fifth generation Lombardian, called home for the first 67 years of his life. In 1981, he was appointed as Director and CEO of the DuPage Airport Authority in West Chicago. Roger held this position until Governor Jim Edgar appointed him as the Director of the Division of Aeronautics for the State of Illinois. Following his role with the Division of Aeronautics, he accepted appointment to the position of Assistant to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation. He founded Roger C. Marquardt & Company as an independent lobbyist and consulting firm. Possibly his biggest honor came in 2002 when he was appointed to serve his hometown of Lombard in the Illinois House of Representatives in 2003. The Village of Lombard honored Roger by designating every December 10th from 2003 forward as "Roger C. Marquardt Day" commending his long standing loyalty and service to the people of Lombard. Hi Scott, this is always a sad time of year for me. Was great to see you at the Capitol. A place Roger loved and was well respected. Quick story once at Roger's before our dinner. I told him of my papa who worked for the Railroad as a Sky Cap and my love for trains. Also, my pop played for the Negro Baseball league. Not knowing, all of a sudden Trains appeared from tracks that seemed to go forever. It was quite a pleasant surprise. Whatever Roger could do to make you feel comfortable he did. What a great guy and a great loss, that will be felt for a long, long time. Scott has taken on that wonderful characteristic from his father of doing whatever he can to make you feel comfortable. Thanks for sharing a wonderful person, your dad with all of us. Tell Judy hi for me and give her a big ole hug. Scott you and Carrie and the rest of the crew have done an outstanding job carrying on for Roger. Those are some very large shoes to fill. Love you guy's always. Bob Owens

While in the Capitol the other day I thought about Roger and had some funny

I truly miss Roger, from the first day we met he opened his arms and heart and welcomed me to not only IPAA but his home as well. I would always try to be the first one to our meetings in Galena, but i was always greeted by his smiling face. He once made a remark that I was trying to take his job by being first. I miss him and I miss seeing his lovely wife, Judy. Scott and Carrie have done a remarkable job filling his big shoes. Rest Roger you deserve it. Bob

I worked for Roger many years ago and I will say that he was so knowledgable about everything that he did and fair and honest. Roger was truly a man of substance and it followed him all of his life. I always enjoyed his wit, his wisdom, his insight and wonderful sense of humor. I learned so much from this man. With Roger's passing it is truly an end of an era. Goodbye to A Good and loving family man, and brillant betond comparison. No one can ever forget you Roger. God Speed, you are truly a legend and you will be sorely missed.
