Robert Robertson Obituary

Robertson, Robert Of Matteson, IL, passed away on December 9, 2013. He was born in Ethelsville, Alabama on December 15, 1920. Affectionately known as "Pops", Robert was the fifth of ten children born to a Methodist preacher, Elijah Robertson and his wife Sophia. At the age of 18, before finishing high school, he enlisted in the armed services during World War II and served from 1941 to 1945. Following his honorable discharge, he took up residence in Chicago. In 1946, after a short stint as a Pullman porter, he joined Met-L-Wood as a carpentry journeyman where he worked for 38 years. The absence of his presence will be deeply felt by Mattie, his faithful and prayerful wife of 55 years; seven daughters, Victoria, Shirley, Regina (Gary), Monica (Curtis), Inger, Arlee (Jerry) and Thessa (Robert); three sons, Terry (Debra), Timothy (Cassandra) and Ray (Leneshia); twenty-four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Osie; three sisters-in-law, Jackie, Ruth, and Georgia; two brothers-in-law Richard and James; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to VFW Benjamin O. Davis Post 311, 22341 Governors Highway, Richton Park, IL 60471 would be greatly appreciated.

The Robertsons have always been like family to me, and Mr. Robertson has always made me welcome in his home. I never felt like an outsider and loved hanging out at the Robertson home. I always had so much fun! I loved Mr. Robertson's conversation, and always felt honored to receive any of his advice and to soak up his knowledge and wisdom. His legacy lives on through his beautiful children and his lovely Queen, Mrs. Robertson. RIH Mr. Robertson. Gone from here, but forever in our hearts.❤
