Robert Moran Obituary

Bugs knew the meaning of friendship. Perhaps it was our age, our generation maybe, or just Fenwick? But those friendships I made then continued into adulthood, whenever and wherever we met! A few years after HS in the Bleachers' Line across from Ray's (THEN!), or at Abbey Pub with Kevin Cullinane--All because of friendships formed at Fenwick, with my then boyfriend Brian O'Leary, at whose memorial I last saw Bugs. It seemed like we picked up where we left off, and I'm in awe of friendships like these. Top O' the Morning to Ya, Bugs.......etc. and Go, CUBS, Go!

I always loved hanging out with Bugs, and who didn't? I had the honor of sharing a CUBS game--and After at Ray's--when it was Ray's--and another fun concert evening at the Abbey Pub--and both with Dr. Kevin Cullinane in tow. Fenwick boys and Trinity girls stay friends forever. Bugs was accomplished more than we knew; his gift to us was his love of life and CUBS and comedy. The world is not as funny without him, and I'm sure his family misses him more than anything. Thanks for the laughter, Bugs. Gone too soon.

I was so sorry to hear of Bugs passing. I think i first met him when he went to Fenwick with my younger brother Ned. He was always such a crazy guy. Always laughing. Then we ended up having Cubs Season tickets across the aisle from each other for a few years. How he loved The Cubs. He will be greatly missed!!

Linda Rosner chiming in on how much we loved Bugs Moran! I got to know him in the class of '74 when I ran with the rest of his musical Friars crowd in Fiorello. All the parties! During Purdue days for me, I ran into Bugs in the Bleachers line waiting for the CUBS game one summer! We drank our share of beer that day! Fast forward to running into Bugs with Kevin Cullinane at Abbey Pub for burgers and beer and a concert years later, and being just as fun. What a loving spirit and joyful person was Bugs. Finally spent some time at fellow Friars' memorial for Mark Job; I'm missing you guys and our teen years. My thoughts and prayers with Bug's family; he was one of the best! So sad he is gone, but joining a welcoming crowd in Heaven. Bye Bye Bugsy! Love, Linda

So sorry to hear of the passing of friend and fellow Friar, Bob/Bugs Moran. Always positive, with an wry, infectious wit, he made us all smile and listen, laugh and think.

My prayers go to his family and friends.

Celebrate his life.
Share the memories.
Embrace his love.

And he will live in our thoughts and hearts forever.

Tom, Jim, and Bill, my heartfelt sorrow and sympathies on losing your big brother, whom you've intimately known for your whole lives. Please extend my condolences to your entire family.

I've lost a dear friend whom I first met back in 1975 when we both worked at Marshal Field's. He was a stock boy going to DePaul while I worked in sales for the rug department. By providence, the TV department was nearby where I worked, and Bob would regularly take his afternoon break to watch the Three Stooges (by the way, to add to your excellently written obit, Bob as a Stoogefile...he coitenly was!!!). We struck up had a lot of fun banter while watching our slapstick heroes.

Jump to the '90s, when I met him again in the Loop, where we both worked. From then on, a 20+ year friendship flourished. No doubt he was brilliant and ferociously inquisitive about an eclectic range of topics, but beyond his intellectual gifts was his gentle, sweet, and kind soul...and those qualities are the true measure of a man and what made him beloved by so many. Even now, and I imagine for a long time going forward, I'll expect his call right after Jeopardy to review the esoteric questions on the show.

Bob clearly didn't have an easy final last year, but I was so impressed by his flinty defiance and focus on getting back to his routines. He'd typically use humor to handle the challenge. Some of his best one liners were delivered while battling his condition. I'm heartened that I visited him any number of times and brought him books to read, which he devoured and commented upon. Pretty sure he was comforted by that.

Don't want to meander, so I'll sign off by saying I fervently hope to meet Bob once again. He was a wonderfully unique person and I loved him.
