Robert McClelland Obituary

Robert B. McClelland, 88 of San Angelo, formerly of Georgetown, Texas, passed away to be with his Lord on July 18th, 2013 while surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Therese.
A Memorial service will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel in San Angelo, Texas on Sunday, July 21st, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Mike Andress officiating. Memorials may take the form of contributions to The National Parkinson's Foundation in his memory.
Robert (Bob) was born on January 22, 1925 in Schenectady, New York. He graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and then enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II.
Specifically, Bob served as a Technician Fifth Grade in the 536th Engineer Light Platoon Company in Central Europe and participated in Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes Campaigns. He received the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was extremely proud to be a Veteran.
After the War, Robert attended and graduated from the University of Denver where he received a degree in business. Bob also met the love of his life, his wife Therese Pool, at the University of Denver. They were happily married on June 17, 1951 in Denver. Bob and Therese raised their family in several different states throughout his 45 years working for General Electric. They were by each other's side for nearly 60 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Therese in 2010. He is survived by two daughters: Nancy Sproul of San Angelo and Barbara VanDyke and husband Jeffrey of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren: Bryan Sproul and wife Stephanie of San Angelo, Alison Dawson and husband Travis of Waco, TX, Lindsay Cassler and husband Matthew of Columbus, OH, and Dr. Shannon VanDyke of Hickory, NC; five great-grandchildren: Landon and Micah Sproul, J.J. Dawson and Brody and Jax Cassler. He is also survived by his wonderfully supportive brother in-law, Sherman Pool and his wife Marjorie, of Albuquerque, NM, and their children, Jeff and Kathy.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family for his entire life. He never let a day go by without asking how all of his family was doing. He was truly a loving soul and will be missed by all.
The family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at Myrtlewood Estates, Regency Health Care Center and Lighthouse Hospice for their loving care of our father.

You were a blessing to Dad as well. He knew so well that what you put forth will come back to you ten fold. He felt the love and care from the nurses and staff at Regency during his last months of his life here; especially from dear Tammy! I will forever be grateful to you for that. You are very special to our family.

I was so honored to be a part of the care of this extraordinary Gentleman. It was never, ever about, Bob. He always wanted to know how I was doing. Rather than the focus of our time as a Nursing or medical encounter, it was "Come on in here, Sit down & Tell me how you've been doing" He was the most genuine person I have ever known. So humble & kind. That tiny little man was the sunshine of my day, Everyday that I saw him. The love that he had for his family, and the passion he had for life was truly something to behold. I was privileged to get to know his family, and witness how powerful his influence on them was as well. The goodness of a spirit like his has transcended down through his daughters, grandchildren & great grandchildren. In all of my 17 years of nursing, I have never been a part of something so powerful as my time with Bob. I will Always see his face & remember his sweet voice. Angels are amongst us, we just get lucky sometimes to realize it. Nancy & Barbara, Thank Your girls, for allowing me the Honor of taking care of your Daddy. He was my Pal :>)
