Robert Eastman Obituary

Woodland Hills, California - Robert, '"Bobby" Eastman, 56. of Woodland Hills, California, died Sunday February 13th 2005 at his home.

Born the only son of Harold and Florence Eastman on January 28, 1949, he grew up in Dover, New Hampshire, graduating in 1987. He attended the University of New Hampshire and was involved in the Theater Department. As a mortician's assistant in college, he sharpened a natural wit to overcome the more somber aspects of his job, much to the amusement of those he lived with. Later at the age of 21, as the youngest Chief of Police_ he served the people and community of Rollinsford, New Hampshire.

Returning to his fascination with acting and film, he produced and starred in the movie, "Here Today" shot in the local Dover area. He played an instrumental role in the establishment in 1978 of the New Hampshire Film Commission that attracted "On Golden Pond".

In a 1979 seaside ceremony he married Susan Cragin, and moved shortly after that to Miami, Florida to pursue a career in film. He quickly established himself as a Producer and Assistant Director in the freelance commercial industry, becoming a member of the prestigious Directors Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild.

The family returned to Durham, New Hampshire in 1987 then moved to Los Angeles in 1990 where he continued a successful film career, traveling around the world for shoots in Canada, Europe. Asia, and the Caribbean.

With a keen wit and astute mind. Bobby kept everyone around him laughing. He was much loved and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan, and much loved sons, James and Ian.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Carol Cingolani.

Funeral services were held Friday at Woodland Hills Community Church, Woodland Hills, CA, 91364. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bob Eastman Memorial Fund in C/O Woodland Hills Community Church, 21338 Dumtez Rd., Woodland Hills, CA, 91364.

Susan, Ian, & James,

There are few words that can fully express my sadness at hearing of Bob's passing. From the first time we met at UNH, it was obvious how special and talented he was. Overshadowed at first by others, he came into his own and surpassed them as he found his niche in this life - but that didn't surprise me at all. All of us who knew him are grateful he touched our lives. He will be impossible to forget, frequently remembered, and always cherished.

Dear Susan, Bob and I go back to Maple Street, 1956, first grade at Sawyer School - Horne St School -Dover HS in 1967. Bob was the President of the Student Council, a born leader. We shared a lot of great memories. Our friendship continued via e-mail. We last talked about the lobster cookouts. My memories of Bob's cheerfulness never have and never will diminish. Dear Susan and Family,

From the time I entered grade one, I traveled by the Eastman home on Maple St. Dover,NH to walk with my good friend Carol to Sawyer School and then thru highschool. We were very close friends and that continued as I visited Bob's sister every week she was at Dover House Health Care. My youngest brother, also Bob, was in Bobby's class. So we had a generation of good friendship. I loved my friend Carol and her positive outlook on life, even when she was dealt some of the most ultimate blows life could sustain. I know her brother must have the same strong sustenance for life. When Bob came to see me on one of his last visits East, I was so happy to hear of his success in film and great happiness in life with his family.

It is with the greatest sadness that I have read of his death and want you to know that I send my deepest sypathy to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My Dearest Susan:

I am on the floor, noooooooo! This could not be. I'm sorry by not strating out with my sympathy but years and miles never separated him from me. I loved that man, why, how? I know no doubt you have hundreds if not more people writing you but please write me. With all his friends here in this area, it would be a shame not to have a memorial for this loved guy. You didn't like Bob if you knew him, you loved him. I am in a state of total shock. The last time we spoke was when I was on 60 minutes and he called me rolling over laughing. At that time I asked him if he had a copy of "Here Today!". He said no, and I said I had one made from the original tapes and would make a copy and send it to him. Now I can't remember if I did or did not, it seems to me as I recall I lost the address and I don't know if it was before I had a chance to make it. I believe my son has it now. I know if you don't have a copy you would love one, please let me know (603) 343-2426 if you got a copy. I'm going to wait a day or so and hope that you will write with your phone number, if not I'll call information, but I'm sure right now you are very busy. Susan, I am a staunch Christian....and I know that if any one is in Heaven he's there now making the Almighty laugh, I'm very sure of it. I am making this short, I'm sure you will have many to respond to, but please let there be a Memorial here so that his friends can give him what he truley deserves. With my love, in Jesus Christ, our Saviour I am forever with you. Bob DuBois

Dear Sue

I cannot tell you how sorrY I am to hear of Bobby's passing. As you know we go back a long long time. We knew each other as kids and through Carol became good friends. I always will remember the joy when you and Bob married, and the birth of the kids. Millie and I are currently touring the US in our Motor Home and heard through the Fosters online. Please know that Bob will always hold a special place in our hearts as we always looked forward to seeing him when he was home. Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this very difficult time.

My best to your family.

Sincerely

John and Millie Emond

Oh my God! Oh my God! I am shocked! Bobby was one of my heroes and I can't believe this has happened. I think about all the wondeful times I had in Robert's presence and we all know how Bob could dominate a room and make everyone in it feel good. I am too upset to finish. Susan please e-mail me when your up to it.
