Robert Buchanan Obituary

Robert A. Buchanan, 86, currently a resident of Tonawanda Manor, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, September 17, 2009 in Tonawanda Manor. Born on October 24, 1922, he was the son of the late Archibald and Bethia Buchanan. On December 18, 1946, he married the former June C. Reitmulder in Niagara Falls, NY. She predeceased him on November 12, 2004. Mr. Buchanan was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. Robert proudly served his country in the United Sates Navy, during World War, II, until his honorable discharge in 1945. Following his discharge, he continued serving in the Naval Reserves until 1952. For forty-one years, Mr. Buchanan was employed by Union Carbide Metals Division, where he retired as Supervisor of Maintenance Operations. After retiring from Union Carbide, Robert and his wife, June, traveled extensively. He enjoyed golf, reading and spending time with his family. Mr. Buchanan is survived by two sons, Douglas M. Buchanan of Niagara Falls, NY and Robert J. (Theresa) Buchanan of Gloucester, MA; one daughter, Laurie Anne (John) Cristiano of Lewiston, NY; three grandsons, Michael J. Trane of Niagara Falls, NY, Matthew (Luiza) Buchanan of Salem, MA and Christopher Buchanan of Gloucester, MA and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was predeceased by two brothers, Douglas and James Buchanan. Mr. Buchanan graciously donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at the University at Buffalo. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
