Robert Barney Obituary

Barney Sr., Robert Louis 64, went to his heavenly home on September 7, 2008, after an eleven-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Bob was a friend to so many, and a stranger to no one. He lived his life to the glory of God, wrapped in the love of his Savior, Jesus Christ. And he always made sure that when he left a person, that person was closer to Jesus than when he'd first met them. He is survived by his wife Janet; daughter Brenda Smith (Lance Boerjan); sons Michael (Vita), James (Tabitha), Dennis (Ellen Zyniewicz), Jason (Jennifer), Dean (Melanie), and Robert II; sisters Karen (Fred) Buhler and Thora Jean Rhode; father-in-law Jay Batson; ex-wife Cheryl Myhrvold; 17 grandchildren and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one nephew, one granddaughter, three mothers-in-law, and a father-in-law. "Celebration of Life" Service will be held at Bethel Community Church, 7601 W. Foster Ave, Chicago, on September 14, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. Bob requested that no one wear black as this is a blessed event. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Iowa Hospice Foundation (www.iowa-hospice.com), PanCAN (www.panCAN.org), or Bethel Community Church.

While we may think of this as a loss, keep in mind that God did not lose Bob when he sent him to enrich our lives, and we haven't lost Bob just because God has called him back.

Our lives are richer and fuller for having known him....rest in peace, gentle man.

Dear Janet,
We met you and Bob about 7 1/2 years ago when our sons graduated from the Police Academy together. Our son, Eric, and your son, Jason, have remained good friends. We think so much of Jason and Jennifer and their family.
We are so very sorry for your loss, but thank God that Bob is now free from pain, and we know you will see him again someday. You and the rest of your family will remain in our prayers.
Sincerely,
Lani and Bill Winstrom
