Many of us may not be alive still, but I was one of many Warriors holding "the old maid", in turn, back in '75 & '76.
Having just recently learned of The Coach's death, I feel much sadness, yet, I still see Dick with his feet up, not sweating a drop, and counting, "...down one down two down three,...and hold...".
My most heartfelt condolences go out to his family members; my prayers speak for his peaceful and eternal rest.

I'll never forget the first time Woit and I met at Arkansas State--what good times we had together during the four years of football. He was a buddy, a roommate and kept everybody laughing. Gloria and I have enjoyed his letters and contacts these past years and were deeply saddened to hear of this grievous loss of our lifetime friend. God bless all who mourn his passing.

Dear Family, 6/3/07
I just heard the bad news about Dick's death. I am an old friend of his from The Lawson YMCA days. I was not in his classes, but I certainly knew of them while being at the club. I knew Dick, and we would always greet each other while at the club. I think of him, and will miss him. Best Wishes and my thoughts are with you.

Sincerely,

Howard Schelly

My New, Dear Friend, Coach,
How I'll miss all the wonderful conversations we've had and the energy that your smile always brought me. You're the one who I would always look forward to seeing at the Club and couldn't wait to hear what new advise and insight you had to share! I'll miss watching you throw the football across the court and seeing how you always brought sunshine to everyone you touched. For the short time that I've known you, you've had a great impact on me, which will never be forgotten. I'll truly miss you.

One of Coach's most memorable sayings after we finished his Saturday "invitation" workout was, "I kept you alive another day--if it weren't for me, you'd all be dead!"

Coach improved my health and my life--I will miss him and will remember him with great affection. I am proud to be one of "Woit's Warriors." My deepest sympathy to his family. Coach Woit will never be forgotten.

Dick Woit is dead? Not possible, the man was indestructible as he demonstrated in the late 70's at his "miracle party" at Park West, when he ate solid food for the first time in many years. He got me in the best shape of my life and although I only saw him once after I moved away from Chicago in 1984 I think about him fondly every time I go to the gym. God bless him he was "born to train."

The Coach was a legend in his own time. He enhanced the lives of all those who trained with him. He fostered friendship amongst "The Warriors," and refined a life philosophy for all those who embraced his slogan "No pain no gain." Rest in Peace, Coach.

I have known Coach through my father, Mickey, for a majority of my life. I participated in his classes and had the privilege of being trained by him proir to playing high school football. I will always remember the unspoken lessons taught by him. My condolences to his family and numerous friends.
